Arundel (UK Parliament Constituency)
Arundel was twice a parliamentary constituency in the Kingdom of England, the Kingdom of Great Britain, and the United Kingdom. The first incarnation strictly comprised the town centre of Arundel and was a borough constituency in Sussex first enfranchised in 1332 and disfranchised in 1868 under the Reform Act 1867. Arundel initially elected two members, but this was reduced to one in 1832 by the Great Reform Act. It was created by the Boundary Commission in the 1974 boundary changes, and existed until 1997. This Arundel seat elected only one member. John Atkins (MP)
John Atkins (c. 1754–1838), of Halstead Place, near Sevenoaks, Kent, was an English politician. He started his career at sea before setting up as a West India merchant with his brother Abram. He was elected an Alderman of London in 1808, served as a Sheriff of London for 1809–1810 and as Lord Mayor of London in 1818–1819. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Arundel in 1802–1806 and 1826–1832, and for the City of London in 1812–1818. Augustus Keppel, 5th Earl Of Albemarle
Augustus Frederick Keppel, 5th Earl of Albemarle (2 June 1794 – 15 March 1851), styled Viscount Bury from 1804 until 1849, was an English nobleman. Life Bury was commissioned an ensign in the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards on 7 April 1811. He was promoted to lieutenant and captain on 12 January 1814. In 1815, he was appointed aide-de-camp to William, Prince of Orange and fought at the Battle of Waterloo. On 4 May 1816, Bury married Frances Steer, but the couple had no children. He sat as member of parliament for Arundel from 1820 to 1826, and was appointed a deputy lieutenant of Norfolk on 13 March 1845. He succeeded his father as Earl of Albemarle in October 1849, but he was subsequently adjudged to have been insane since July 1849. Accordingly, he never sat in the House of Lords. Thomas Read Kemp (23 December 1782 – 20 December 1844) was an English property developer and politician. Life He was the son of Sussex landowner and Member of Parliament Thomas Kemp, and his wife Anne, daughter of Henry Read of Brookland. Lord Dudley Stuart
Lord Dudley Coutts Stuart (11 January 1803, London – 17 November 1854, Stockholm) was a British politician. He was the youngest son of John Stuart, 1st Marquess of Bute, and his second wife, Frances Coutts, daughter of the banker Thomas Coutts. In 1820, he was admitted to Christ Church, Oxford. On 20 July 1824, he married Princess Christine Bonaparte (1798–1847), daughter of Lucien Bonaparte by his first wife, Christine Boyer, and sister of the Princess Gabrielli. They had one son, Paul Amadeus Francis Coutts Stuart, who died unmarried in 1889. He was a member of the Whittington Club and the vice-president (and later the president) of the Literary Association of the Friends of Poland. A Whig and subsequently Liberal, he was a passionate advocate of Polish independence, and sympathetic in general to the cause of the Eastern European peoples against Russia.
