Edward Fella
Edward Fella (born 1938) is an American graphic designer, artist and educator. He created the OutWest typeface in 1993. His work is held in the collection of the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, the Brauer Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art. He was the recipient of the 2007 AIGA Medal. He was also the recipient of a Chrysler Award in 1997. Curt Cloninger called Fella "the contemporary master of hand-drawn typography." He created the OutWest typeface. He designed it by hand. It has a 15-degree ellipse. His hand design style has been described as "American folk art typography". His style and work has influenced designers like Lorraine Wild, P. Elliott Earls
Elliott Peter Earls (born 1966) is an American graphic designer, artist and one man band performance artist. He is an artist-in-residence and head of the graduate graphic design department at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Early life Earls attended St. Xavier, a Jesuit all-boys high school, in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he focused on athletics. After high school, he attended and graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in 1988. Earls then attended Cranbrook Academy of Art for graduate school; he completed his MFA there in 1993. Career Graphic design After graduating from RIT, Earls worked at de Harak and Poulin Associates in New York. Next he worked with David Cundy in New Canaan. In 1995, Earls created a CD of his design work called "The Apollo Program", which was named after the NASA program. Cranbrook Academy Of Art
The Cranbrook Educational Community is an education, research, and public museum complex in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. This National Historic Landmark was founded in the early 20th century by newspaper mogul George Gough Booth. It consists of Cranbrook Schools, Cranbrook Academy of Art, Cranbrook Art Museum, Cranbrook Institute of Science, and Cranbrook House and Gardens. The founders also built Christ Church Cranbrook as a focal point in order to serve the educational complex. However, the church is a separate entity under the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan. The sprawling campus began as a farm, purchased in 1904. The organization takes its name from Cranbrook, England, the birthplace of the founder's father. Jeffery Keedy, born 1957, is an American graphic designer, type designer, writer and educator. He is notable as an essayist and contributor to books and periodicals on graphic design. He is also notable for the design of ''Keedy Sans'', a typeface acquired in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in 2011.
