Edward Elliot (architect)
Edward Elliot (1828–1901) was a Canadian architect who was responsible for many important public buildings in Nova Scotia, including the Church of the Redeemer (Universalist) in Halifax and the Truro Agricultural College. Life and career Born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Edward Elliot was one of ten children of Jonathan and Charlotte Elliot. Jonathan Elliot was a building contractor and two of his sons, Edward and Henry, became architects, their father helping build at least one of their buildings, the Mechanics Institute, in 1843 in Dartmouth. By 1878 they worked together as Elliot Brothers. Two of their early projects were the Presbyterian Theological Hall and the conversion of the Mechanics Institute building to become the Dartmouth Town Hall. By 1880 Edward Elliot was working as an independent and his work in that capacity included the redesign of the Assembly Room in Province House and Halifax City Hall in 1890. Edward Locke Elliot
Lieutenant General Sir Edward Locke Elliot, (28 January 1850 – 12 December 1938) was a British Army General during the Second Boer War and in British India. Biography Elliot was the son of Colonel Edward King Elliot. He was educated at Harrow School and Royal Military College, Sandhurst, before being commissioned into the 108th (Madras Infantry) Regiment of Foot in January 1868. He served in the Second Anglo-Afghan War in 1879, and in Burma, 1885–1889, being mentioned in despatches (dated 2 September 1887) and awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO). Elliott participated in the Dongola Expedition of 1896, when he was again mentioned in despatches and after it was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath. Two years later, in 1898, he was promoted to colonel and appointed Inspector-General of Cavalry in India. Edward Hay Mackenzie Elliot
Major Edward Hay Mackenzie Elliot (30 November 1852 – 5 December 1920) was a British soldier who served as Private Secretary to David Boyle, 7th Earl of Glasgow while he was Governor of New Zealand in the 1890s. He twice played football for Scotland in the unofficial international matches in 1871 and 1872. Early life and education Elliot was born at Vizagapatam, India, the son of Walter Elliot (1803–1887), the Scottish naturalist, and Maria Dorothea Hunter Blair (c.1816–1890). His mother was the daughter of Sir David Hunter-Blair, 3rd Baronet. Elliot was educated at Windlesham House School, near Washington, West Sussex and Harrow from January 1867 to Easter 1870. Football career Elliot played football for Harrow Chequers, before joining the Wanderers club, making his debut for them in a 5–0 victory over Forest School on 28 November 1871.
