Edward Darling
Edward Flewett Darling (born 24 July 1933) was Bishop of Limerick and Killaloe from 1985 to 2000. Biography Darling was born into an ecclesiastical family, growing up in Skibbereen, County Cork, brother to Vivienne and Evelyn. He developed a love of music from an early age, growing up as a choir boy with St. Nicholas Choir, Cork. Educated at St. John's School, Leatherhead and Trinity College, Dublin. Initially reading Classics and the arts, he later studied theology attending the Divinity School. he was also an active member of thTrinity College Choral Society Involvement with the society included undertaking the role of Secretary 1955/1956 alongside Assistant Secretary Patricia Mann; later to become his wife. The Diocese of Limerick and Killaloe (formally: 'The United Dioceses of Limerick, Ardfert, Aghadoe, Killaloe, Kilfenora, Clonfert, Kilmacduagh and Emly') was a former diocese of the Church of Ireland that was located in mid-western Ireland. The diocese was formed by a merger of neighbouring dioceses in 1976, before itself merging with the neighbouring Diocese of Tuam in 2022 to form the Diocese of Tuam, Limerick and Killaloe. The diocese was in the ecclesiastical province of Dublin and was one of the twelve Church of Ireland dioceses that cover the whole of Ireland. The Most Rev. Walton Newcombe Francis Empey (born 26 October 1934) is a retired Church of Ireland bishop. He was formerly the Archbishop of Dublin. Empey was born in Dublin, the son of the Reverend Francis Fullerton Empey and Mildred May "Mimi" Empey (née Cox). His father was also a cleric, serving in Donoughmore and Donard, Fenagh and then in Enniscorthy. Empey was educated in local national schools in his father's parishes and then at Portora Royal School in Enniskillen. He then took a BA at Trinity College, Dublin in 1957. Empey was ordained as a deacon in 1958 and, after being ordained priest in 1959, he was appointed as a curate in St Paul's church, in Glenageary, County Dublin. William Edward Flewett (1861–1938) was the 8th Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross. Educated at Trinity College Dublin, he was ordained in 1885. His first post was a curacy at Lislee. He then held incumbencies at Corkbeg, Midleton, and Mallow before becoming Precentor of Cork Cathedral.
