Edward Cyril Malone
Edward Cyril "Ted" Malone (born July 17, 1937) is a retired Saskatchewan lawyer, politician and judge. He represented Regina Lakeview in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1973 to 1978 and was leader of the Liberal Party of Saskatchewan from 1976 to 1981. He was born in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1937, the son of Justin Cyril Malone and Marion Grassick who was the daughter of James Grassick, a Regina MLA and mayor. Malone studied law at the University of Saskatchewan and went on to work for the federal and provincial Liberal parties. James Grassick
James Grassick (March 2, 1868 – August 4, 1956) was a businessman and political figure in Saskatchewan, Canada. He represented Regina City in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1929 to 1934 as a Conservative. Biography He was born in Fergus, Ontario, the son of George Grassick and Ann Jane Bell, both natives of Scotland, and moved to Manitoba with his parents in 1878. 1978 Saskatchewan General Election
The 1978 Saskatchewan general election was held on October 18, 1978, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. The New Democratic government of Premier Allan Blakeney was returned for a third consecutive term with an increased majority in the legislature, and a larger share of the popular vote. The Progressive Conservative Party of Richard Collver continued to increase its share of the popular vote in this election. They were the only other party to win seats and became the official opposition to the Blakeney government. Fierce political infighting in the Liberal Party after the resignation of leader David Steuart led to electoral disaster in 1978. Evatt Francis Anthony "Tony" Merchant, (born 1944) is a Canadian lawyer, businessman, and former politician. His law firm Merchant Law Group LLP, which he founded in 1986, is best known for representing former students of Indian residential schools in the $1.9 billion Indian Residential School Settlement in 2006, the largest class-action settlement in Canadian history. David Steuart
David Gordon Steuart (January 26, 1916 – November 5, 2010) was a Saskatchewan politician, cabinet minister and senator. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, the son of Francis J. Steuart and Abbie Cory Thomas, Steuart moved to Prince Albert with his family in 1936. In the same year, he married Eunice Mary Cooke. Steuart served as a navigator in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was elected to Prince Albert city council in 1951 and served as mayor from 1954 to 1958. He also served as president of the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association.
