Edward A. Bouchet Award
The Edward A. Bouchet Award is an annual prize presented by the American Physical Society (APS) to recognize distinguished physicists from underrepresented communities who have made significant contributions to research in the field of physics and for the advancement of minority scientists. The award provides a stipend of $5,000 and travel expenses for attending an APS meeting and visiting up to three institutions for talks and classroom visits. The prize has been awarded since 1994 and is named after Edward Bouchet, Edward A. Bouchet, the first African American to earn a doctorate degree from Yale University. American Physical Society
The American Physical Society (APS) is a not-for-profit membership organization of professionals in physics and related disciplines, comprising nearly fifty divisions, sections, and other units. Its mission is the advancement and diffusion of knowledge of physics. It publishes more than a dozen scientific journals, including the prestigious '' Physical Review'' and ''Physical Review Letters'', and organizes more than twenty science meetings each year. It is a member society of the American Institute of Physics. Since January 2021, it is led by chief executive officer Jonathan Bagger.
