Education In Afghanistan
Education in Afghanistan includes K–12 and higher education, which is under the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education. In 2021, there were nearly 10 million students and 220,000 teachers in Afghanistan. The nation still requires more schools and teachers. Soon after the Taliban take took the country in August 2021, they banned girls from secondary education. Some provinces still allow secondary education for girls despite the ban. In December 2022, the Taliban government also prohibited university education for females in Afghanistan, sparking protests and international condemnation. In December 2023, investigations were being held by the United Nations into the claim that Afghan girls of all ages were allowed to study at religious schools. As of November 2024, some parts of the country allow women to attend religious schools to pursue dentistry, nursing, and other subjects. Paktia University
Paktia University () is a public higher education institution in Gardez, Afghanistan. Its current chancellor is Mawlawi Abdul Hakim Hadi. According to him, approximately 8,500 students are enrolled in Paktia University. Majority are male students. There are approximately 145 professors. The university's acceptance rate was reported at 55%. Paktia University was established in 2004 after the Governor's office of Paktia Province presented a proposal to the Transitional Islamic State of Afghanistan about building a university in the province. According to the proposal, it was recognized as a non-profit and a bachelor graduate-based level foundation. Until March 2009, the university shared a building with a teacher training college. Bost University, in Lashkargah, Helmand Province, Afghanistan is a private institution of higher education founded by Ahmad Jan Popal in 2010. Bost University offers two to six-year undergraduate degrees and diplomas. Kandahar University
Kandahar University (KDRU; ; ) is located in the north-western section of Kandahar, Afghanistan, next to the Lowala neighborhood. Established during the Presidency of Mohammad Najibullah in 1990, it is one of the largest public universities in the country. It is under the Ministry of Higher Education, which is headquartered in Kabul. The university was expanded in the last two decades with many new buildings and facilities being added. Shaikh Zayed University
Shaikh Zayed University (SZU; ), also known as Khost University (), is a public university in the city of Khost, southeastern Afghanistan. With its original name ''Afghan University Peshawar'', it was initially established in 2000 in Peshawar. It was shifted to Khost by special orders of the former Afghan President Hamid Karzai, and was officially registered in 2003. The university was named after Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the first President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), who sponsored the construction of its campus in Khost. Work on the university started when Governor Hakim Taniwal was in office. The next governor, Merajuddin Patan, made a trip to the UAE, and requested funds for the completion of the university.
