Edmore, Michigan
Edmore is a village in Montcalm County of the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,210 at the 2020 census. History Edmore was founded and platted by Edwin B. Moore, a real estate man, in 1878, and named with a contraction of his name. A post office was established on July 22, 1878, with Abraham West as the first postmaster. Its station on the Detroit, Lansing and Northern Railroad was called "Edmore Junction". It was incorporated as a village in 1879 with Moore as its first president. The Edmore post office, with ZIP code 48829, serves most of Home Township as well as portions of Belvidere Township to the west, Douglass Township to the southwest, Day Township to the south, Ferris Township to the southeast, and Rolland Township to the north in Isabella County. Belvidere Township is a civil township of Montcalm County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the township population was 2,135. Geography The township is along the northern edge of Montcalm County, bordered to the north by Mecosta County and at the town's northeast corner by Isabella County. Lakeview is a village in Cato Township in Montcalm County of the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,024 at the 2020 census. History Lakeview was first settled in 1858 and platted in 1867 by Albert S. French, a settler from New York. It had been a Native American camp site. French named it for its location on the west side of Tamarack Lake. A post office was established on October 7, 1867, with Hiram S. Barton as its first postmaster. Stanton, Michigan
Stanton is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,348 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Montcalm County. History Stanton was organized in 1860 when the people of Montcalm County voted to move the county seat here from Greenville, which had been the original county seat since 1840. At that time, the County Board purchased from Fred Hall of Ionia and named the location "Fred" in his honor. The family of Levi Camburn was the first to settle here, and he became its first postmaster on March 10, 1862. The city was renamed for U.S. Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton in 1863. The Michigan Relics (also known as the Scotford Frauds or Soper Frauds) are a series of alleged ancient artifacts that were "discovered" during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. They were presented by some to be evidence that people of an ancient Near Eastern culture had lived in the peninsula of North America now known as the U.S. state of Michigan prior to the era of Columbian contact with the New World. Isabella County is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 64,394. Its county seat is Mount Pleasant. The area was known as ''Ojibiway Besse'', meaning "the place of the Ojibwa". Isabella County contains the Isabella Indian Reservation, on which members of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation live.
