Edmonton West stylized as Edmonton (West) from 1917 to 1921, was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1917 to 1921 and again from 1963 to 1971. History The riding has existed twice, the first incarnation was created in 1917 when the Edmonton electoral district broke up into Edmonton East and Edmonton West electoral districts. The two districts were merged along with Edmonton South in 1921 to reform the Edmonton electoral district. The second incarnation was carved out of the south portion of Edmonton North West in 1963. In 1971 the riding was renamed Edmonton-Glenora. The Legislative Assembly of Alberta is the deliberative assembly of the province of Alberta, Canada. It sits in the Alberta Legislature Building in Edmonton. Since 2012 the Legislative Assembly has had 87 members, elected first past the post from single-member electoral districts. Bills passed by the Legislative Assembly are given royal assent by the lieutenant governor of Alberta, as the viceregal representative of the King of Canada. The Legislative Assembly and the Lieutenant Governor together make up the unicameral Alberta Legislature. The Edmonton provincial electoral district also known as Edmonton City from 1905 to 1909, was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return members to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1905 to 1917 and again from 1921 to 1959. The Edmonton, Alberta electoral district was created when Alberta became a province, replacing the territorial electoral district of the same name. With varying boundaries, it existed in two incarnations from 1905 to 1913 and again from 1921 to 1956. In 1917 and since 1956, the city (small as it was in former times) was broken up into separate single-member constituencies. Edmonton-South (previously styled Edmonton South) is a provincial electoral district in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The first iteration was used for the 1913 and 1917 provincial elections. The district was re-created for the 30th Alberta general election. Geography The first iteration of Edmonton South included the part of the city of Edmonton south of the North Saskatchewan River, formerly encompassed by the Strathcona district. Edmonton and Strathcona had recently been amalgamated. Edmonton-North West is a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada that has existed twice, first as Edmonton North West between 1959 and 1971, and for a second time since 2019. Edmonton-Glenora is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Canada. It is located north of the North Saskatchewan River in Edmonton. The electoral district, as defined by the ''Electoral Divisions Act, 2003,'' encompasses an area that includes, in addition to the neighbourhood of Glenora, the neighbourhoods of Britannia Youngstown, Canora, Grovenor, High Park, Inglewood, Mayfield, McQueen, North Glenora, Prince Charles, Westmount, and Woodcroft as well. Alberta provincial electoral districts are currently single member ridings that each elect one member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. There are 87 districts fixed in law in Alberta, Canada. History The original 25 districts were drawn up by Liberal Party of Canada, Liberal Member of Parliament Frank Oliver (politician), Frank Oliver prior to the first general election of 1905. The original boundaries were widely regarded as being gerrymandered to favour the Alberta Liberal Party, although the Liberal Party did receive the majority of votes in the 1905 election and thus rightly formed majority government. Every boundary redistribution since 1905 has been based on the original boundaries, with districts being split or merged. Starting in 1909, districts were grouped to make multiple-member districts. Edmonton West () is a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1988, from 1997 to 2004 and again since 2015. Demographics History and geography This riding was first created in 1914 from Edmonton (federal electoral district), Edmonton Riding (division), riding. Originally, this was a vast rural district including most of the northwestern quadrant of the province of Alberta and a portion of the city of Edmonton: the area north of the North Saskatchewan River and west of 101st Street.
