Edmonton Talmud Torah
The Edmonton Talmud Torah is a historic Jewish day school in Edmonton, Alberta. History The ETT was founded in 1912 by a group of 13 Jews in the basement of the Beth Israel Synagogue on 95th Street. When the Edmonton Jewish community grew in the 1920s, the Beth Israel Synagogue became unsuitable, and so a decision was taken in the early 1920s to build a new building for the Talmud Torah. The cornerstone was laid on September 9, 1925, on a lot on 103 Street south of Jasper Avenue. In 1933, The Jewish Day School Began. The school board developed a concept for a Hebrew/ Jewish day school program, where the regular curriculum including English language arts, math, and science would be covered in an intensive half-day format, with the other half-day devoted to Hebrew language study, as well as religious study. Edmonton ( ) is the capital city of the Canadian province of Alberta. Beth Israel Synagogue (Edmonton)
Beth Israel Synagogue ( he, בית ישראל) is a Modern Orthodox synagogue located at 131 Wolf Willow Road NW in the Oleskiw neighbourhood of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Founded in 1906 as the Edmonton Hebrew Association, it is the city's oldest synagogue. Beth Israel's (and Edmonton's) first rabbi was Hyman Goldstick, recruited from Toronto in 1906; he was later elected mayor of Edson, Alberta. The congregation's Hebrew school, founded in 1907, would share space with the congregation until 1925, and later became Canada's first Jewish day school. Over the years, the congregation has occupied three different buildings; in 1912 it moved into its first building on 95th Street. Jasper Avenue
Jasper Avenue is an arterial road in central Edmonton, Alberta, and is the city's main street. Jasper Avenue has no official street number but is aligned with 101 Avenue with the majority of its length. Jasper Avenue is a major public transit route as several of Edmonton's busiest bus routes travel along it. The LRT travels underneath Jasper Avenue between 99 and 110 Streets. It is named after Jasper Hawes, manager of a North West Company trading post of Jasper House in the early 1800s, located in present-day Jasper National Park. Hebrew Language
Hebrew (; ; ) is a Northwest Semitic language of the Afroasiatic language family. Glenora is a residential neighbourhood in the city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, overlooking the North Saskatchewan River valley.
