Edgehill, Warwickshire
Edge Hill is an escarpment and Edgehill a hamlet (place), hamlet in the civil parishes in England, civil parish of Ratley and Upton House, Warwickshire, Upton, Stratford-on-Avon District, southern Warwickshire, England. At Ratley, the escarpment rises to above sea level and above nearby Radway, within 300 metres of the Warwickshire border with Oxfordshire. Edge Hill gave its name to the first battle of the English Civil War, in which it was a prominent feature. The hamlet has a public house, an eccentric building of local Hornton Stone called the Castle Inn that was built in the 1740s to the designs of Sanderson Miller (1716–80). Cox Edghill
John Cox Edghill was a British Anglican priest and military chaplain. He was senior chaplain at Aldershot from 1861, then followed chaplain to the forces at Chatham, Halifax (Nova Scotia), again at Aldershot, Gibraltar, and, finally, at Portsmouth (1881–1885), and then Chaplain-General to Her Majesty's Forces (1885–1901). He was also Chaplain of the Tower of London until he resigned in October 1902. Following his retirement, he held the position of Prebendary of Wells, which he held until his death. As a noted Tractarian and Anglo-Catholic, he was the first choice to replace Hibbert Binney as the bishop of Nova Scotia by the Synod of the diocese, at Halifax, 6 June 1887. He declined his election in a letter to the Synod. He was an Honorary Chaplain to King Edward VII. He had a daughter, Ella Mary Edghill, with Mary Nesfield (d. 24 September 1922, Weston-super-Mare). Richard Edghill
Richard Arlon Edghill (born 23 September 1974) is an English football coach and former professional footballer. He played as a defender from 1993 to 2008, spending the majority of his career with his home town club, Manchester City. He spent numerous seasons in the Premier League and remained with the club through several relegations, followed by several promotions. He also appeared for Birmingham City in a loan spell and after leaving City in 2002 he moved on to Wigan Athletic. Juan Anthony Edghill (born 25 December 1964) is a Guyanese pastor and politician. He is the founder and presiding bishop of Zadok Ministers Fellowship. Ella Mary Edghill (born 13 November 1881 at Aldershot; died 24 January 1964 at St Mary's Hospital, Bristol) was a British translator known primarily for her translation of ''Categories (Aristotle), Categories'' which appeared in Volume 1 (1928) of ''The Works of Aristotle'' series, edited by W. D. Ross and John Alexander Smith, J. A. Smith and for her translation of On Interpretation by Aristotle. She was the daughter of Rev. Chelsea Edghill (born July 6, 1997) is a Guyanese table tennis player who has competed at the Commonwealth Games and became the first player from Guyana to compete at the Olympic Games in Table Tennis. Career Edghill competes in the women's singles, women's doubles, mixed doubles, and team table tennis events, and is ranked #408 as an individual. In the 2014 Youth Olympic Games she placed 25th in the women's singles; in the 2018 Latin American Table Tennis Championships she went out in the preliminary round, and made it to the first round of the 2019 Pan American Games. The Battle of Edgehill (or Edge Hill) was a pitched battle of the First English Civil War. It was fought near Edge Hill, Warwickshire, Edge Hill and Kineton in southern Warwickshire on Sunday, 23 October 1642. All attempts at constitutional compromise between Charles I of England, King Charles and Long Parliament, Parliament broke down early in 1642. Both the King and Parliament raised large armies to gain their way by force of arms. In October, at his temporary base near Shrewsbury, the King decided to march to London in order to force a decisive confrontation with Parliament's main army, commanded by the Robert Devereux, 3rd Earl of Essex, Earl of Essex.
