Edgar Preca
Edgar Preca is the husband of the 9th President of the Republic of Malta, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, and hence First Gentleman of Malta, making him the first person to hold the male title. Early life and career Preca worked at Air Malta for 34 years until he retired from work in 2012 to help his wife in her campaign for president. Personal life Preca met Marie-Louise in 2002 after they were introduced by a mutual friend at the General Workers' Union cafeteria in Valletta. Despite receiving her phone number, Preca later said he was too shy to call her and they would not speak again until four years later, 2006, when they bumped into each other at the same cafeteria. Agatha Barbara, (11 March 1923 – 4 February 2002) was a Maltese politician, having served as a Labour Member of Parliament and Minister. She was the first woman to serve as president of Malta, and remains the longest-serving woman Member of Parliament in Maltese political history. Early life Barbara was born in Żabbar, Malta, in 1923. Her father worked as a tug master (a skilled pilot of tugboats) for the Royal Navy, and was very poorly paid. Her mother struggled to feed the nine children on her husband's wages. Agatha was the second child and the eldest daughter. She pleaded her parents to send her to school and attended grammar school in Valletta, but World War II prevented her from continuing to college. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, (born 7 December 1958) is a Maltese politician who served as President of Malta from 2014 to 2019. She has been president of Eurochild since 2019. Previously, as a member of the Labour Party, Coleiro Preca was a Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Representatives of Malta from 1998 to 2014. She served as the Minister for the Family and Social Solidarity from 2013 to 2014 under Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.
