Eddie Davis (cricketer)
Edward Davis (8 March 1922 – 16 July 2011) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman. Davis was born in Brackley, Northamptonshire. He made his first-class debut for Northamptonshire against Hampshire in the 1947 County Championship. He made 103 further first-class appearances for Northamptonshire, the last of which came against Essex in the 1956 County Championship. In his 104 first-class appearances, he scored 4,126 runs at an average of 28.45, with a high score of 171. He made three centuries and 26 half centuries, which showed an inconsistency to make go on and make big scores. His highest score of 171 came against Leicestershire in the 1949 County Championship, which was his most successful season with 851 runs at an average of 34.04. Brackley
Brackley is a market town and civil parish in the West Northamptonshire unitary authority area of Northamptonshire, England. It is on the borders with Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, east-southeast of Banbury, north-northeast of Oxford, and southwest of Northampton. Historically a market town based on the wool and lace trade, it was built on the intersecting trade routes between London, Birmingham, the Midlands, Cambridge and Oxford. Wisbech Grammar School
Wisbech Grammar School is an 11–18 Mixed-sex education, co-educational, Church of England, Private schools in the United Kingdom, private Day school, day and boarding school in Wisbech, Isle of Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. Founded by the Guild of the Holy Trinity in 1379, it is one of the List of the oldest schools in the United Kingdom#Fourteenth century, oldest schools in the country. Chartered by Edward VI in 1549 as a grammar school for boys, for much of its history it offered a largely classical curriculum of Greek, Latin and arithmetic under the governance of the Wisbech Corporation. Don Wilson (cricketer)
Donald Wilson (7 August 1937 – 21 July 2012) was an English cricketer, who played in six Test matches for England from 1964 to 1971. His first-class cricket career, which lasted from 1957 to 1974, was spent with Yorkshire County Cricket Club and he later became a noted cricket coach. He was born in Settle, Yorkshire and died at York. Life and career Wilson made his first-class debut in 1957 but his regular cricket began two years later when he succeeded Johnny Wardle as Yorkshire's left-arm spinner, winning his Yorkshire cap in 1960. He was then an integral part of Yorkshire's formidable side that won seven County Championship titles between 1959 and 1968. He was tall and wiry, relying on bounce more than savage side spin, and took 100 wickets in a season five times, including three of the seven seasons he was part of the Championship-winning side. 1967 Gillette Cup
The 1967 Gillette Cup was the fifth Gillette Cup, an English limited overs county cricket tournament. It was held between 23 April and 2 September 1967. The tournament was won by Kent County Cricket Club who defeated Somerset County Cricket Club by 32 runs in the final at Lord's. Format The 17 first-class counties, were joined by five Minor Counties: Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Durham, Lincolnshire and Oxfordshire. Yorkshire County Cricket Club is a professional Cricket club based in Yorkshire, England. The team competes in the County Championship, the top tier of English First-class cricket. Nicknamed "Vikings". Yorkshire also competes in T20 Blast, One-Day Cup (England), One-Day Cup. National Counties Of English And Welsh Cricket
The National Counties, known as the Minor Counties before 2020, are the cricketing counties of England and Wales that do not have first-class status. The game is administered by the National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA), which comes under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). There are currently twenty teams in National Counties cricket: nineteen representing historic counties of England, plus the Wales National County Cricket Club. Of the 39 historic counties of England, 17 have a first-class county cricket team (the 18th first-class county is Glamorgan in Wales) and 19 participate in the National Counties championship. Minor Counties Championship
The NCCA 3 Day Championship or National County Championship is a season-long competition in England and Wales that is contested by the members of the National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA), the so-called national counties (previously called the minor counties) that do not have first-class status. History The competition began in 1895, with the Worcestershire honorary secretary Paul Foley being influential in its creation. It has been contested annually ever since apart from the two World War periods, and cancellation in 2020 due to COVID-19. From 2014 to 2019 the tournament was known as the Unicorns Championship.
