Ed Kerns
Ed Kerns (born February 22, 1945) is an American abstract artist and educator. Kerns studied with the noted Abstract-Expressionist painter, Grace Hartigan and through the elder artist came to know and work with many artists of that generation including, Phillip Guston, Willem de Kooning, James Brooks, Ernest Briggs, Richard Diebenkorn and Sam Francis. Early life Born in 1945 in Richmond, Virginia, Kerns started painting at a young age. He attended the Richmond Professional Institute, receiving his BFA in 1967. He went on to the Maryland Institute, where he studied with painter Grace Hartigan. Here, Kerns received the Hoffberger Fellowship and graduated with an MFA in 1969. Painting career Kerns first gained exposure in 1972, when he was commissioned by art collector Larry Aldrich to paint 100 paintings over the course of the year as gifts. Grace Hartigan
Grace Hartigan (March 28, 1922 – November 15, 2008) was an American Abstract Expressionist painter and a significant member of the vibrant New York School of the 1950s and 1960s. Her circle of friends, who frequently inspired one another in their artistic endeavors, included Jackson Pollock, Larry Rivers, Helen Frankenthaler, Willem and Elaine de Kooning and Frank O'Hara. Her paintings are held by numerous major institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. As director of the Maryland Institute College of Art's Hoffberger School of Painting, she influenced numerous young artists. Leon Golub
Leon Golub (January 23, 1922 – August 8, 2004) was an American painter. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, where he also studied, receiving his BA at the University of Chicago in 1942, and his BFA and MFA at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1949 and 1950, respectively. He was married to and collaborated with the artist Nancy Spero (August 24, 1926 – October 18, 2009). Their son Stephen Golub was an economics professor at Swarthmore College. Their son Philip Golub is Professor of International and Comparative Politics at the American University of Paris and was a longstanding contributing editor of the influential journal ''Le Monde diplomatique''. Phoebe Adams
Phoebe Adams (born 1953) is an American painter, sculptor, and educator. She is known for her biomorphic artwork. Adams was active in New York City for a decade from 1985 to 1995, and has lived in Maine and New Mexico. Early life and education Phoebe Adams was born in 1953 in Greenwich, Connecticut. She studied art at Philadelphia College of Art (BFA 1976; now the University of the Arts), Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (in 1977), and University at Albany, SUNY (MFA 1978). Roy Lerner
Roy Lerner (1954-2023) Born in Chicago, Illinois) was an internationally exhibited American painter. Lerner attended Franconia College where he studied with the artist Peter Bradley. Early in his career Lerner was a gallery assistant to the British sculptor Anthony Caro. Fabian Marcaccio (born 1963 in Rosario, Argentina) is an Argentine-Italian born artist living and working in the United States whose trans-genre works including "Paintants and '"Draftantshave been exhibited worldwide. Jim Toia
Jim Toia is an American studio artist and professor of art. Early life Toia was born in the U.S. state of New Jersey. He attended Lawrenceville School where he discovered an Amanita muscaria on the school grounds and researched its deadly attributes. At Bard College took Field Studies in Natural History with biologist Bill Maple. At Bard, Toia studied art with Jim Sullivan, Nancy Mitchnick and Jake Greossberg.
