Ed Donovan (engine Builder)
Ed Donovan (1928–1989), commonly called "The Mole" (or "Pachy"), was an American racing engine and parts builder. Donovan developed the first all-aluminum-engine block, block Hemispherical combustion chamber, hemi designed specifically for Top Fuel drag racing. He was posthumously inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2003. Early life Ed Donovan was born 1928 in Los Angeles. He was fascinated with engines from an early age. While working for Offenhauser, Donovan became involved in drag racing, before branching out on his own. Engine builder Donovan's company, Donovan Engineering, was started in 1957. He supplied top racers, including Don Nicholson, "Dyno Don" Nicholson. Donovan, along with Leo Goossen, built the first two-disk racing clutch, the first titanium valves (for which Nicholson was his first customer), and other gear. Don Garlits
Donald Glenn Garlits (born January 14, 1932) is an American race car driver and automotive engineer. Born in Tampa, Florida, Garlits is considered the father of drag racing, he is known as "Big Daddy" to drag racing fans around the world. A pioneer in the field of drag racing, he perfected the rear-engine Top Fuel dragster, an innovation motivated by the loss of part of his foot in a dragster accident. This design was notably safer since it put most of the fuel processing and rotating parts of the dragster behind the driver. The driver was placed in front of nearly all the mechanical components, thus protecting him and allowing him to activate a variety of safety equipment in the event of catastrophic mechanical failure or a fire. Joe Hrudka is a pioneering American gasser drag racer. Driving a 1957 Chevrolet, he won NHRA's D/Gas national title at Indianapolis Raceway Park in 1961. His winning pass was 12.73 seconds at . The next year, at the wheel of the Peters & Betz team's 1955 Chevrolet (with a transplanted Chevrolet engine), he won a second NHRA DGas national title at Indianapolis.
