Ecstatic Yod (label)
Ecstatic Yod, otherwise known as Father Yod, is a record label run by music critic Byron Coley. In 1993 the label partnered with Thurston Moore's label Ecstatic Peace and began releasing records under the name "Ecstatic Yod." Ecstatic Yod operates a retail outlet in Florence, Massachusetts. Byron Coley
Byron Coley is an American music critic who wrote prominently for ''Forced Exposure'' magazine in the 1980s, from the fifth issue until the magazine ceased publication in 1993. Prior to ''Forced Exposure'', he wrote for '' New York Rocker'', '' Boston Rock'', and ''Take It!'' Coley is one of the first writers to have extensively documented indie rock from its inception to the present day. Coley was a contributing writer and the Underground Editor at '' Spin'' in the 1980s and '90s, and currently writes for ''Wire'' and ''Arthur'' with Thurston Moore. He has also run Ecstatic Yod, a record label and shop based in Florence, Massachusetts. Coley has contributed liner notes to albums by the Flesh Eaters, Borbetomagus, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., The Dream Syndicate, Big Boys, Yo La Tengo, John Fahey, Steffen Basho-Junghans, Flaherty/Corsano duo, Urinals, and numerous others. Thurston Moore
Thurston Joseph Moore (born July 25, 1958) is an American musician best known as a member of Sonic Youth. He has also participated in many solo and group collaborations outside Sonic Youth, as well as running the Ecstatic Peace! record label. Moore was ranked 34th in ''Rolling Stone''s 2004 edition of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time." In 2012, Moore started a new band Chelsea Light Moving. Chelsea Light Moving eponymous debut was released on March 5, 2013. Since 2015, Chelsea Light Moving has been disbanded after one studio album release. Moore and the other members of the band continue to make music under his solo project and other bands. Ecstatic Peace
Ecstatic Peace! is a record label based in Easthampton, Massachusetts, founded in 1981 by American musician Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth. The label name is borrowed from a line in Tom Wolfe's 1968 nonfiction novel '' The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test''. The label's releases are eclectic and often experimental or avant-garde. The premiere release was a split cassette featuring spoken word performances from Michael Gira of Swans and Lydia Lunch. Ecstatic Peace! has released more than 200 LPs, cassettes, 7"s, and CDs, of both highly established and fledgling artists, including Hush Arbors, be your own PET, Awesome Color, Black Helicopter, Free Kitten, Arthur Doyle, Dredd Foole, No-Neck Blues Band, Nels Cline, Notekillers, Magik Markers, Tall Firs, Pagoda, My Cat Is An Alien, Monotract, Sunburned Hand of the Man, Violent Soho, and many more. Florence is a village in the northwestern portion of the city of Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. During the 19th century, Florence was a thriving manufacturing village shaped by progressive ideas on religion, abolitionism, and education. OvO (band)
OvO is an Italian noise rock duo formed by Stefania Pedretti and Bruno Dorella in 2000 in Ravenna, Italy. The two initially planned for the band to be totally improvisation-based with an open lineup. After encouragement from members of their local music scene to become a band and tour, they decided to do so in order to play with Cock ESP, an extreme noise band from Minneapolis. Since, the pair have released eight full-length albums on a variety of international record labels including Load Records, Dio Drone, Bar La Muerte, and Supernatural Cat, among others. The origin of the band's name, OvO, stems from using a piece of the Italian word ''"nuovo"'', or new, which creates a palindrome.
