Eclipsed (play)
''Eclipsed'' is a play written by Danai Gurira. It takes place in 2003 and tells the story of five Liberian women and their tale of survival near the end of the Second Liberian Civil War. It became the first play with an all-black and female creative cast and team to premiere on Broadway. ''Eclipsed'' premiered at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in Washington, DC in 2009, then opened in London at the Gate Theatre in April 2015 in a production starring Letitia Wright. An American Off-Broadway production followed shortly afterwards at The Public Theater in October 2015 with positive reviews and ran until November 2015. The following year, it transferred to Broadway, premiering at the John Golden Theatre with an opening on March 6, 2016. Its Broadway run closed on June 19, 2016. Danai Gurira
Danai Jekesai Gurira (; born February 14, 1978) is a Zimbabwean-American actress, playwright, and activist. She is known for her starring roles as Michonne in the AMC horror drama franchise '' The Walking Dead'' and Okoye in Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her films have grossed $6.98 billion dollars, making her the seventh highest-grossing actress of all time. As a playwright, she has won an Obie Award and, among other works, wrote the Broadway play '' Eclipsed'', which was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play. Charles McArthur Ghankay Taylor (born 28 January 1948) is a Liberian former politician and convicted war criminal who served as the 22nd president of Liberia from 2 August 1997 until his resignation on 11 August 2003 as a result of the Second Liberian Civil War and growing international pressure. Born in Arthington, Montserrado County, Liberia, Taylor earned a degree at Bentley College in the United States before returning to Liberia to work in the government of Samuel Doe. After being removed for embezzlement and imprisoned by President Doe, Taylor escaped prison in 1989. He eventually arrived in Libya, where he was trained as a guerrilla fighter.
