''Echo Dek'' is a remix album by the Scottish alternative rock band Primal Scream. It was released in October 1997 and followed the group's fifth studio album by less than four months. It peaked at number forty-three on the UK Album Chart and number ninety-seven on the Japanese ''Oricon'' Album Chart. The album is an experimental dub remix of ''Vanishing Point''. The album was extensively reworked with additional production by English record producer Adrian Sherwood. Sherwood sampled Jamaican reggae musician Prince Far I on "Wise Blood". Eight of ''Vanishing Points tracks were remixed for the album – two mixes of "Stuka" appear – "Burning Wheel", "If They Move Kill 'Em" and "Motörhead" are the three songs not included. Primal Scream
Primal Scream are a Scottish rock band originally formed in 1982 in Glasgow by Bobby Gillespie (vocals) and Jim Beattie. The band's current lineup consists of Gillespie, Andrew Innes (guitar), Simone Butler (bass), and Darrin Mooney (drums). Barrie Cadogan has toured and recorded with the band since 2006 as a replacement after the departure of guitarist Robert "Throb" Young. Primal Scream had been performing live from 1982 to 1984, but their career did not take off until Gillespie left his position as drummer of The Jesus and Mary Chain. The band were a key part of the mid-1980s indie pop scene, but eventually moved away from their jangly sound, taking on more psychedelic and garage rock influences, before incorporating a dance music element to their sound with their 1991 album '' Screamadelica'', which broke them into the mainstream. Gary "Mani" Mounfield (born 16 November 1962Warshaw, AaronMani allmusic.com) is an English rock bassist, best known for being a member of The Stone Roses and Primal Scream. Career Mounfield attended Xaverian College in Rusholme, Manchester. He developed an interest in darts, a sport he went on to champion throughout his career. He left school aged sixteen in 1979 and joined the band the Stone Roses (part of the "Madchester" music scene) in 1987. Playing on both of the band's albums, Mounfield was in the Stone Roses until they disbanded in 1996, shortly after the birth of his son, Joseph, also a keen bassist. Mounfield used a Rickenbacker 4005 Jackson Pollock-influenced paint-splattered bass guitar in the period after the Stone Roses debut album. He joined Primal Scream after Stone Roses disbanded. "Kowalski" is a song by Scottish rock band Primal Scream, released on 5 May 1997 as the lead single from their fifth studio album ''Vanishing Point''. The song contains a drum sample from "Halleluhwah" by Can and an interpolation of the bassline from " Get Off Your Ass and Jam" by Funkadelic, and is named after the main character of the 1971 film ''Vanishing Point'', played by Barry Newman; it also features various dialogue samples from said film. The song peaked at number eight on the UK Singles Chart and became the band's highest-charting single in Scotland, reaching number two. In Australia, the song was a minor hit on the ARIA Singles Chart, peaking at number 79. Martin Duffy (musician)
Martin Bernard Duffy (18 May 1967 – 18 December 2022) was an English musician who originally played keyboards with Felt and most famously with Primal Scream. Career Duffy was born in Birmingham and grew up in Rednal in the south of the city, attending St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School in King's Norton, and growing up listening to punk rock, as well as two-tone, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Duffy joined the indie rock band Felt as keyboard player in 1985. Felt frontman Lawrence later recalled "I put up notices in Virgin in Birmingham advertising for a guitarist saying 'Do You Want To Be A Rock 'N' Roll Star?' I'd put two up when this guy came up to me and said, 'I know this keyboard player. He's 16. He's just left school." Robert Young (musician)
Robert "Throb" Young (19 November 1964 – 9 September 2014) was a Scottish musician. He was a member of the alternative rock band Primal Scream from 1984 to 2006. Career Young met Primal Scream singer Bobby Gillespie when they were both studying at King's Park Secondary School in Glasgow, and he joined the band in 1984. He performed on every Primal Scream album until his departure in 2006. He was originally the bass player. Primal Scream's debut album, ''Sonic Flower Groove'', was released in 1987. After the album was released, guitarist Jim Beattie left the band and Young took over that role. Following 2006's ''Riot City Blues'', Young left the band. Andrew Innes
Andrew Colin Innes (born 16 May 1962 in Glasgow) is a Scottish-born, London-based musician. He is best known for being the rhythm guitarist in Scottish rock band Primal Scream. Biography Early years While in high school in 1978, Innes was the guitarist for a Glasgow punk band called The Drains. He met Alan McGee and Bobby Gillespie when they had joined the band. After the band's demise, Innes along with McGee briefly joined the band H2O then relocated to London where they formed The Laughing Apple, a band of which recorded three singles in 1981 and 1982, two of which were released on Autonomy, and the third was put out on their own Essential record label. Robert "Bobby" Gillespie (born 22 June 1961) is a Scottish musician, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known as the lead singer, founding member, and primary lyricist of the alternative rock band Primal Scream. He was also the drummer for The Jesus and Mary Chain in the mid-1980s. Prince Far I (23 March 1945 – 15 September 1983) was a Jamaican reggae deejay and producer, and a Rastafarian. He was known for his gruff voice and critical assessment of the Jamaican government. His track "Heavy Manners" used lyrics about government measures initiated at the time against violent crime. Biography He was born Michael James Williams in Spanish Town, Jamaica.
