Ebrahim Karimi (physicist)
Ebrahim Karimi (; ; born 1978 in Saqqez, Kurdistan Province) is a quantum scientist at University of Ottawa. He is the Canada Research Chair in Structured Waves and Quantum Communication. Biography Karimi was born into a Kurdish family in the city of Saqqez, located in Iran’s Kurdistan Province. Karimi grew up amid the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s and completed his early education in his hometown of Saqqez and received his Diplomat from Iqbal Lahouri highschool, before joining Department of Physics at Kerman University in 1997. He received his B.Sc. in Physics with emphasis on mathematics from Kerman University in 2001. He began his graduate studies in the mathematical physics group at IASBS, obtaining 18th place in Iran's University Entrance Exam. Saqqez
Saqqez (; ; ) is a city in the Central District (Saqqez County), Central District of Saqqez County, Kurdistan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district. Etymology The name Saqqez derives from the Scythian languages, Scythian word "''Eskit''" and then "''Sakez''". Before that, it was Izirtu, the capital of Mannaeans. In some historical sources it has been mentioned that the name of the city is derived from the name of powerful Median ruler Cyaxares (reigned 625–585 BC), who turned the empire into a regional power, but other historians believe that the name of the city is derived from ''Sakez'' and is attributed to the Scythians who settled in the city during the reign of Cyaxares. The orbital angular momentum of light (OAM) is the component of angular momentum of a light beam that is dependent on the field spatial distribution, and not on the polarization. OAM can be split into two types. The ''internal OAM'' is an origin-independent angular momentum of a light beam that can be associated with a helical or twisted wavefront. An optical vortex (also known as a photonic quantum vortex, screw dislocation or phase singularity) is a zero of an optical field; a point of zero intensity. The term is also used to describe a beam of light that has such a zero in it. The study of these phenomena is known as singular optics. Yousef Sobouti (, born 23 August 1932 in Zanjan, Iran) is a contemporary Iranian astrophysicist, theoretical physicist. Biography He got his undergraduate degree from Tehran University. In 1960 he received his MSc degree in physics from University of Toronto. He finished his doctoral thesis on Astronomy and Astrophysics at University of Chicago under the supervision of Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar in 1963. He started teaching physics in Sharif University of Technology, and Shiraz University. Sobouti made significant contributions to the education of physics and basic sciences in Iran. His aim was to train young scientists who were capable of performing world- class research.
