Ebbw Vale Football Club () was a football club from Ebbw Vale, South Wales. History Ebbw Vale played in the first season of the League of Wales in 1992–93 League of Wales, 1992–93. The club then finished 11th before finishing 3rd in two successive seasons to 1997–98 League of Wales, 1997–98. During the years when they finished 3rd the Giles brothers, Paul and David were key members of the team. The manager at the time was John Lewis. They competed in the 1997 UEFA Intertoto Cup where they played SC Bastia, Bastia, Grazer AK, GAK, NK Hrvatski dragovoljac, Hrvatski Dragovoljac, and Silkeborg IF, Silkeborg. However, they were expelled from the League of Wales before the 1998–99 League of Wales, 1998–99 season began, and promptly went out of business. Eugene Cross Park
Eugene Cross Park is a rugby union, rugby and cricket ground in Ebbw Vale, Wales. In November 1919 the Ebbw Vale Welfare Association was formed and bought the "Bridgend Field". The of land became known as the Welfare Ground, and in 1973 its name was changed to its present title in honour of Sir Eugene Cross, the influential and long-standing Chairman of the Welfare Trustees. The ground has terraces, a stand which was bought due to a fire which burnt the previous stands and a clubhouse which boasts a pub, a club shop open at match days and award-winning hospitality packages. The stadium is adjacent to the B4486 road, the Newchurch Road and the Ebbw River. It is the home of Ebbw Vale RFC and Ebbw Vale Cricket Club, it occasionally hosts matches for Glamorgan County Cricket Club, and a small number of international rugby league matches have taken place there. It is considered the most prestigious of the cup competitions in domestic Welsh association football. Jimmy Rollo
James Stuart Rollo (born 22 May 1976) is an English former footballer who was the assistant manager of Bath City until 2021. Career Born in Wisbech, Rollo began his career at Walsall as a trainee but made just one first-team appearance for the side in the Football League Trophy as a substitute before being released. He instead joined Cardiff City on non-contract terms, making his debut on 31 January 1997 in a 4–1 win over Fulham after returning from a short loan spell at Bath City. In his first season at Ninian Park, Rollo made seventeen appearances including playing in the play-off semi-final first leg defeat to Northampton Town. The following season, he scored his first professional goal during his career with a header against Southend United in the League Cup on 12 August 1997. Gary Plumley
Gary Plumley (born 24 March 1956) is an English former professional footballer who played in the Football League for Newport County, Hereford United and Cardiff City, and in the Hong Kong First Division League for Happy Valley. A goalkeeper, Plumley made 187 appearances for Newport County in four spells with the club between 1976 and 1987. He was part of the team that won the Welsh Cup and were promoted to the Third Division in the 1979–80 season, and in the subsequent season reached the quarter-final of the 1981 European Cup Winners Cup, holding eventual runners-up Carl Zeiss Jena to a draw in the away leg before losing 1–0 at home. Plumley also played for Hereford United, Cardiff City, Happy Valley and Ebbw Vale. David Giles (footballer)
David Charles Giles (born 21 September 1956) is a Welsh former professional footballer and Wales international. During his career he attained 12 caps for Wales, scoring on two occasions. Career Giles was a Welsh schoolboy international when he signed for Cardiff City. He made his debut for the Bluebirds in a 0–0 draw against Nottingham Forest in February 1975. Unable to hold down a permanent first team spot he left the club in December 1978 for £20,000 and joined Wrexham where he spent two years before again moving on, this time for £40,000 to Swansea City. He continued to move around in the next few seasons, playing for Leyton Orient on loan before moving to Crystal Palace and then Birmingham City. After a spell at Newport County he returned to the club where he started his career, Cardiff City. Giles then played for Stroud. The UEFA Intertoto Cup (from , "between" and , " betting pool"),Most precisely, from ( football pool); cf. originally called the International Football Cup, was a summer football competition between European clubs. The competition was discontinued after the 2008 tournament. The tournament was founded in 1961–62, but was only taken over by UEFA in 1995. Initially, the tournament ended with a single champion, who received the Intertoto Cup. Starting in 1967, the tournament ended with a number of group winners (7 to 14 winners), who received cash prizes. When UEFA took on the tournament, it became a qualifier for the UEFA Cup, with 2 to 11 Intertoto winners advancing to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup. Welsh Premier League
The Cymru Premier, known as the JD Cymru Premier for sponsorship reasons, is the national football league of Wales. It has both professional and semi-professional status clubs and is at the top of the Welsh football league system. It was founded in 1992, as the first league representing all of Wales. Prior to 2002, the league was known as the League of Wales (LoW), but changed its name as part of a sponsorship deal to the Welsh Premier League.
