The Eastern Suburbs District Rugby Union Football Club is a team in the Intrust Super Shute Shield, the premier club rugby union football competition in New South Wales. The club is based in Rose Bay in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, and was founded in 1900. Easts have won a total of 77 NSWRU premiership titles or shields across all grades, as well as 9 club championships. Rose Bay, New South Wales
Rose Bay is a harbourside, eastern suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Rose Bay is located seven kilometres east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government areas of Waverley Council (east of Old South Head Road) and Municipality of Woollahra (on its western side towards the bay). Geography Rose Bay has views of both the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge together. Lyne Park abuts Sydney Harbour on its west. Tim Gavin
Bryant Timothy Gavin (born Sydney 20 November 1963) is an Australian former state and national representative rugby union player who played Number 8 for the Wallabies in 47 Test matches in between 1988 and 1996. Gavin played 83 times for New South Wales between 1988 and 1996 and captained them 30 times. He also played for Milan in Italy in the Australian off seasons between 1992 and 1995. He missed the 1991 Rugby World Cup victory as he suffered a knee injury just before the tournament but played in the 1995 tournament and the inaugural Tri-Nations Series Later life Since retiring from rugby, he has farmed land outside Gunnedah, New South Wales. and been President of the New South Wales Rugby Union. Tiaan Strauss
Christiaan Petrus 'Tiaan' Strauss, (born 28 June 1965) is a former rugby union and rugby league footballer who represented both South Africa and Australia at international level in rugby union and also played top-level domestic rugby league in Australia. He won the 1999 Rugby World Cup with Australia and the Currie Cup with Western Province. Ed Slater
Edward Nicholas Slater (born 1 August 1988) is a former English rugby union player who played at lock. Following a diagnosis of motor neurone disease in July 2022, Slater retired from professional rugby. Club career Junior career Born in Leicester Slater began his rugby career at Milton Keynes RUFC before moving to Australia. He established himself at Eastern Suburbs RUFC, Sydney, NSW. Geoff Richards (rugby Union)
Geoff Richards (born 30 April 1951) is a former rugby union player and coach. He coached at the 2006 Women's Rugby World Cup. He resigned as head coach in 2007. He played for Wasps in England before emigrating to Australia, where his club was Eastern Suburbs in Sydney. Due to the injury toll faced by the Wallabies in their tour of New Zealand in 1978, Richards was selected to play, and eventually played three times for Australia. Dally Messenger
Herbert Henry Messenger, nicknamed "Dally" and sometimes "The Master" (12 April 1883 – 24 November 1959) was one of Australasia's first professional rugby footballers, recognised as one of the greatest-ever players in either code. He played for New South Wales in the first match run by the newly created New South Wales Rugby Football League, which had just split away from the established New South Wales Rugby Football Union. Messenger had a stocky build, and while standing only about in height, he was a powerful runner of the ball and a solid defender. Brendan McKibbin
Brendan McKibbin (born 19 September 1985) is a professional rugby union footballer. He plays for London Irish in the Aviva Premiership. He previously played for the Waratahs and the Queensland Reds in Super Rugby. His regular playing position is scrum-half. Early life McKibbin was born in Irvine, Scotland. Keith McLellan
Keith McLellan (born 14 July 1929) is a former Australian athlete, and rugby union, and rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s. He played club level rugby union for Eastern Suburbs RUFC, 1948-1951 and was named in the club team of the millennium in 2000. He played club level rugby league for Leeds, (Heritage number 882), and representative level rugby league for Combined Nationalities, and Rugby League XIII. He captained Leeds to a 9-7 victory over Barrow in the 1957 Challenge Cup Final. He was a long jump and triple jump athlete. In the Australian athletics championships triple jump final he finished 2nd in 1948 and 4th in 1951, and 4th in the long jump in 1950 and 1951. He grew up in Bondi Beach and was educated at Sydney Boys High School before receiving a Diploma in Physical Education from Sydney Teachers College. Malcolm McArthur
Malcolm Julian "Mannie" McArthur (30 July 1882 – 6 July 1961) was an Australian rugby union national representative rugby union player. He won a gold medal in rugby at the 1908 Summer Olympics. Jack Maddocks
Jack Maddocks (born 5 February 1997) is an Australian professional rugby union player for the Section Paloise in Top 14. His preferred position is fullback, but he can also play on the wing. Career Maddocks made his debut for the Rebels against the Blues as a starter in a 56-18 defeat for the Rebels, overcoming glandular fever to start the game. Maddocks was selected as one of two development players within the Australian squad for the 2017 Wallabies tour. Jason Little (rugby Player)
Jason Little (born 26 August 1970) is a former Australian professional rugby union player. He won 75 caps with one as captain playing at centre for the Australian rugby union side between 1989 and 2000. He also won caps on the wing later in his career. He would later become one of only 21 players who have won the Rugby World Cup on multiple occasions.
