Eastern Sports Club (basketball)
The Eastern Sports Club (), also known as Hong Kong Eastern (), is a professional men's basketball team of the Eastern Sports Club. The team also known as (). Eastern competes in the Hong Kong A1 Division, and the ASEAN Basketball League since 2016. It has won the Hong Kong A1 championship three times, in 1956, 2017 and 2023. History In 2015, the team won and promoted to 2016 Hong Kong A1 Division Championship. The team became fully professional in 2016. In the same year, the club would adopt the name Hong Kong Eastern and join the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL). They won the 2016–17 ABL season, and finished as semifinalists for the next two seasons. They also became Hong Kong A1 Division champions in 2018. The ABL's 2019–20 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hong Kong A1 Division Championship
Hong Kong A1 Division Championship (), abbreviated as HKA1 and A1 Division, is the top division of men's basketball league in Hong Kong. The league was founded in 1954 and the inaugural season was held the same year. Currently, ten teams make up the league. South China is the most successful team in league history with 16 titles. Format Since 2021, the season is usually held between September and April, with offseason taking place from May to August. To make the league more entertaining, a play-off system was adopted in 2005 and an all-star game was held in the middle of the season. Željko Pavličević
Željko Pavličević (born 26 March 1951) is a Croatian professional basketball coach and former player. He currently serves as the head coach for Eastern Sports Club (basketball), Eastern in ASEAN Basketball League. Early life Pavličević began playing basketball in 1969 for the junior team of KK Cibona, Lokomotiva in the city of Zagreb. He was studying at the Faculty of Chemical Technology at the basketball school. Jordan Brady (born June 21, 1983) is an American former professional basketball player and former head coach of the Wisconsin Herd under the NBA G League. Here, he created a 33–67 record, having a 0.330 with them in his 2-year career with them. He is also one of the assistant coaches of the Windy City Bulls under the NBA G League. The 2018–19 ABL season was the ninth season of competition of the ASEAN Basketball League. The regular season started on 16 November 2018 and ended on 28 March 2019. Teams All the teams in 2017–18 season returned for this season. However, the following changes happened: # Chong Son Kung Fu relocated and rebranded to Macau Black Bears. # Zhuhai Wolf Warriors was the 10th team in the ABL, added after Kung Fu relocated to Macau. San Miguel Alab Pilipinas (under the corporate name Pilipinas Basketball Club, Inc. or PBCI) was a Filipino professional basketball team which played in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) under the sponsorship of San Miguel Corporation. The 2017–18 ABL season is the eighth season of competition of the ASEAN Basketball League. The regular season started on 17 November 2017 and ended on 28 March 2018. Teams Five teams from the 2016–2017 ABL season returned for this season. One team, the Kaohsiung Truth, disbanded prior to the season. One team, Mono Vampire, returned after skipping last season, having played in the 2015–16 ABL season. The team plans to concurrently play in the ABL and in the Thailand Basketball League for the upcoming season. Three teams were accepted as new members: Nanhai Long-Lions, Formosa Dreamers and CLS Knights Surabaya. The Singapore Slingers are a Singaporean professional basketball team that last competed in the ASEAN Basketball League. The Slingers were known as the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers between 2009 and 2014, due to sponsorship ties with JobStreet.com. The Slingers formerly competed in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL), becoming the first – and so far, the only – Asia-based club to compete in the NBL when they joined at the start of the 2006–07 NBL season.
