Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association
The Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) is a college athletic conference whose member schools compete in men's volleyball. Its member institutions are located in the Northeast United States. The EIVA Tournament champion receives one of six automatic bids to the NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship. The other five automatic bids go to the two other traditional major volleyball conferences, the MIVA (Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) and the MPSF (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation); the Big West Conference, which in the 2017–18 school year became the first Division I all-sports conference ever to sponsor men's volleyball; and two Division II conferences in Conference Carolinas and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). Uvaldo Acosta
Uvaldo Acosta (May 16, 1965 – February 12, 1998) was an American volleyball player. He was part of the United States men's national volleyball team at the 1990 FIVB World Championship in Brazil. He was selected as the "best defensive player" at the 1991 FIVB World Cup in Japan, where he won a bronze medal while representing the United States. Acosta played for George Mason University, where he was later a coach. Death and legacy Acosta drowned in Hawaii on February 12, 1998. He was 32 years old at the time of his death. He was posthumously inducted into the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association's Hall of Fame in 2012. George Mason, Virginia
George Mason is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population at the 2020 census was 11,162. It consists of George Mason University and some adjacent neighborhoods to the south and southwest of the city of Fairfax, and is named for American Founding Father George Mason. History The land that is now George Mason was located on the farm of John and Harriet Burtis, originally of New York State; the Burtises were abolitionists who grew vegetables and raised sheep. The University of Charleston (UC) is a private university with its main campus in Charleston, West Virginia. It also has a location in Beckley, West Virginia, known as UC-Beckley. Continental Volleyball Conference
The Continental Volleyball Conference is an intercollegiate men's volleyball conference associated with the NCAA's Division III. History On April 4, 2011, Gary Williams, Associate Athletic Director of Carthage College announced in Milwaukee the formation of the Continental Volleyball Conference. The league was established as a direct result of the launch of the NCAA Men's Division III Volleyball Championship in the next school year of 2011–12 where the inaugural tournament was held in April 2012. With the continued growth of Division III men's volleyball, the CVC announced in March 2014 that it would split into two leagues after the 2014 season.
