East Lancs CC
East Lancashire Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Lancashire League, which plays its home games at Alexandra Meadows in Blackburn. For the 2015 season its captain was Mark Bolton and its professional was Juan de Villiers. The club has been very successful, winning the League on 14 occasions, the Worsley Cup on 18 (more than any other club), the Inter League Club Challenge Trophy twice in its ten-year history, and has won a greater percentage of its games than any other club. Lancashire League (cricket)
The Lancashire League is a competitive league of local cricket clubs drawn from the small to middle-sized mill towns, mainly but not exclusively, of East Lancashire. Its real importance is probably due to its history of employing professional players of international standing to play in the League. History The Lancashire Cricket League was formed on 16 March 1892, growing from the North East Cricket League that had been formed 17 months earlier. Currently in membership are Accrington CC, Bacup CC, Burnley CC, Church CC, Clitheroe CC, Colne CC, Crompton CC, Darwen Cricket Club, East Lancashire CC, Enfield CC, Great Harwood, Greenmount CC, Haslingden CC, Littleborough CC, Lowerhouse CC, Middleton CC, Nelson CC, Norden CC, Ramsbottom CC, Rawtenstall CC, Rishton CC, Rochdale CC, Todmorden CC (actually in Yorkshire) and Walsden CC (also in W Yorks). Nelson Cricket Club, based at Seedhill in Nelson, Lancashire, are a cricket Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. Their captain for the 2016 season is Neil Thompson and their professional is Ryan Bailey. Nelson Cricket Club was formed in 1861 when two other local clubs merged. It was a founding member of the Lancashire League in 1892, winning the inaugural championship. The club has gone on to win the league on 21 occasions, the most of any club. Claude Henderson
Claude William Henderson (born 14 June 1972) is a South African former cricketer who bowled left-arm spin and played in seven Test matches and four One Day Internationals in 2001 to 2002. Domestic cricket Henderson played domestically for Boland and Western Province before joining Leicestershire in 2004, Henderson became the first Kolpak registered player in the County Championship, which allows certain players without a British passport, to play in England without counting as an overseas player under the restrictions on overseas players. In June 2006, against Surrey, Henderson recorded an innings analysis of three wickets for 235 runs from 54 overs and 2 ball, the most expensive innings figures in the history of the County Championship. Ray Strauss
Raymond Bernard Strauss (4 November 1927 – 28 July 2013) was an Australian sportsman who played both cricket and field hockey at high levels. From Perth, Western Australia, Strauss attended Perth Modern School and later the University of Western Australia, playing for the university's hockey club. Twice named captain of the all-Australian universities side, he was captain of the side on several occasions, including when the team shared the 1952 Syme Cup with the University of Adelaide. Strauss represented Western Australia on various occasions from 1949 to 1955, and made his Test debut for the Australian national team in August 1954, against New Zealand (with cricket teammate Ian Dick captaining the side), though it is unclear if he played further matches for the national side. Bruce Dooland
Bruce Dooland (1 November 1923 – 8 September 1980) was an Australian cricketer who played in three Test matches for the Australian national cricket team during the late 1940s. During the war Dooland was in an Australian Commando unit serving in the South Pacific. Bill Merritt (cricketer)
William Edward Merritt (18 August 1908 – 9 June 1977) was a New Zealand Test cricketer who played for Canterbury and Northamptonshire, and a rugby league footballer who played for Canterbury, Wigan and Halifax. Career in New Zealand Merritt was born in the Christchurch seaside suburb of Sumner and attended Christchurch Boys' High School. A leg break and googly bowler and a forceful lower order batsman, he had played just four first-class matches when he was selected for the New Zealand tour to England in 1927 – in one of the four, he had taken eight Otago wickets for 68 runs in an innings. Victor Norbury
Duncan Victor Norbury (3 August 1887 – 23 October 1972) was an English all-round sportsman, who played football for Southampton and first-class cricket for Hampshire and Lancashire. Cricket career He made his first-class debut for Hampshire in a County Championship at New Road, Worcester in June 1905. He appeared regularly for Hampshire that summer, and twice in 1906, making a total of eleven appearances, scoring a total of 179 runs. Between 1909 and 1913, he played minor counties cricket with Northumberland, making 24 appearances in total and establishing a reputation as a reliable opening batsman and slow right-arm bowler. From 1912 onwards, Norbury also played for East Lancashire as a professional, claiming over 100 wickets for the 1912 and 1913 seasons. Kerry James O'Keeffe (born 25 November 1949) is a former Australian cricketer and a current cricket commentator for Fox Sports. O'Keeffe played 24 Test matches and two One Day Internationals between 1971 and 1977. Playing career He was a spin bowler, bowling leg breaks. Colne Cricket Club is a cricket club who play in the Lancashire League, which plays its home games at The Horsfield in Colne. For the 2022 season, their club captain is Tom Bradshaw, their 2nd XI captain is Martin Kegg, their 3rd XI captain is Thomas Ellacott and their T20 captain is also Tom Bradshaw.
