Vale o' Nith Football Club was an association football club from Dumfries, Scotland. History The club was founded in 1880 by "very young and enthusiastic" players. Although the club's name was sometimes given as Vale of Nith, it was officially registered as Vale o' Nith. It was a founder member of the Southern Counties Association in 1881; the association obtained a trophy from the Rev. W. H. Churchill of Moffat for a competition, and Vale o' Nith played in the Churchill Cup (Scotland), Churchill Cup from its first edition in 1881–82 until 1888–89. The Vale won through to the second round in its first entry, losing 6–0 to the strongest side in the area in the second round, Queen of the South Wanderers F.C., Queen of the South Wanderers. Dumfries Railway Station
Dumfries railway station serves the town of Dumfries in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It is located on the Glasgow South Western Line. The station is owned by Network Rail and managed by ScotRail who provide all passenger train services. It is staffed on a part-time basis throughout the week. History Opened by the Glasgow, Dumfries and Carlisle Railway in 1848, the line serving it was extended northwards to Kilmarnock and Glasgow two years later (the GD&CR became part of the Glasgow and South Western Railway at the same time). It subsequently became the junction for branches to Castle Douglas and Stranraer (opened between 1859 and 1861), (opened in 1863 and taken over in 1865 by the Caledonian Railway) and latterly to Moniaive ( Cairn Valley Railway, opened in 1905). All of these later lines have now closed (the ''Port Road'' to Stranraer being the last to go in June 1965), leaving only the original G&SWR main line open to serve the town. The Scottish Junior Football Association (SJFA) is an affiliated national association of the Scottish Football Association and is the governing body for the junior grade of football (soccer), football in Scotland. The term "junior" refers to the level of football played, not the age of the players. The closest equivalent terminology would be non-League football in England, the difference being that junior football in Scotland was not similarly integrated into its Scottish football league system, football league system until 2021. Founded in 1886, the SJFA is responsible for disciplinary matters within the grade, certain player registration procedures and organising the annual Scottish Junior Cup. Nithsdale (), also known as Strathnith, Stranith or Stranit, is the strath or dale of the River Nith in southern Scotland. Nithsdale was one of the medieval provinces of Scotland. The provinces gradually lost their administrative importance to the shires created from the twelfth century, with Nithsdale forming part of Dumfriesshire. A Nithsdale district covering a similar area to the medieval province was created in 1975, based in the area's main town of Dumfries.
