East Coast Group Representation Constituency
The East Coast Group Representation Constituency is a five-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in the eastern area of Singapore. It consists of locations such as East Coast Park, Bedok, Changi (in part), Simei, Siglap, Joo Chiat and Chai Chee.A large portion of Singapore's eastern territorial waters also belongs to the GRC. It is divided into the divisions of Bedok, Changi–Simei, Fengshan, Kampong Chai Chee and Joo Chiat, which are managed by East Coast Town Council. The current Members of Parliament (MPs) are Dinesh Vasu Dash, Jessica Tan, Hazlina Abdul Halim, Tan Kiat How and Edwin Tong from the People's Action Party (PAP). Abdullah Tarmugi
Abdullah bin Tarmugi ( Jawi: عبدالله بن ترموڬي; born 25 August 1944) is a Singaporean former politician who served as Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs from 1993 to 2002 and Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore between 2002 and 2011. A member of the People's Action Party (PAP), Abdullah was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Siglap from 1984 to 2011. Early life Abdullah was born in Singapore in 1944 to a Javanese father and a Chinese mother during the Japanese occupation of Singapore. He identifies with the Malay community and is a Muslim. Lee Yock Suan
Lee Yock Suan ( zh, s=李玉全, p=Lǐ Yùquán; born 30 September 1946) is a Singaporean former politician. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he served in the Cabinet between 1987 and 2004, and was a Member of Parliament (MP) between 1980 and 2006. He is the father of Desmond Lee, the current Minister for Education. Tan Soo Khoon
Tan Soo Khoon ( zh, c=陈树群, p=Chén Shùqún; born 1 September 1949) is a Singaporean former politician who served as Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore between 1989 and 2001. Education Tan attended the Anglo-Chinese School before graduating from the University of Singapore in 1971 with an honours degree in business administration. He also served as the general secretary of the students' union of the University of Singapore in 1969. Kaki Bukit, Singapore
Kaki Bukit is an industrial area located in Bedok in the East Region, Singapore, East Region of Singapore. It is home to many high tech industrial companies and warehouses. There used to be a prison complex called Kaki Bukit Centre, which was converted to a prison school in 2000. It has since moved to Tanah Merah, Singapore, Tanah Merah and the Acacia Welfare Home now stands in its place. On the south of Kaki Bukit is Jalan Tenaga and Jalan Damai neighbourhoods of Bedok Reservoir Road. Redevelopments are in the pipeline for Kaki Bukit beyond 2030 when Paya Lebar Airbase, located just north of the estate, relocates to Changi. 2015 Singapore General Election
General elections were held in Singapore on Friday, 11 September 2015 to elect 89 members of Parliament. The outgoing Parliament had been dissolved and the general election called by President Tony Tan on 25 August, on the advice of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The elections were for the 13th Parliament since independence in 1965, using the first-past-the-post electoral system. The elections marked several first since independence: the first election where all seats were contested, including Tanjong Pagar being contested for the first time ever since the ward's formation in 1991. Joo Chiat Single Member Constituency
Joo Chiat Single Member Constituency is a former single member constituency (SMC) that was located in the eastern region of Singapore. The SMC formerly encompassed the areas of Joo Chiat, Katong, Opera Estate, Siglap and a portion of Telok Kurau. It had existed from 1959 until 1988, when it was merged with neighbouring constituencies to form Bedok Group Representation Constituency (Bedok GRC). It was reformed just before the 2001 general election after being carved out from East Coast Group Representation Constituency. The Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency was a five-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) located in the Central Region, Singapore, central, East Region, Singapore, eastern and North-East Region, Singapore, north-eastern areas of Singapore. 1997 Singaporean General Election
General elections were held in Singapore on 2 January 1997. President Ong Teng Cheong dissolved parliament on 16 December 1996 on the advice of Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. The results were released in the late evening that day and the ruling People's Action Party won a total of 81 out of 83 seats as well as a tenth consecutive term in office under the then-Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. Other major political parties contesting in the election were the Workers' Party, Singapore Democratic Party, National Solidarity Party, Singapore People's Party and the Democratic Progressive Party. Chai Chee
Chai Chee (), also known as Kampong Chai Chee, is a housing estate located in the town of Bedok in Singapore. The estate was named after a village known as Kampong Chai Chee which formerly occupied the vicinity. It is served by two major namesake roads, namely Chai Chee Street and Chai Chee Drive, with minor lanes of Chai Chee Road, Chai Chee Avenue and the original Jalan Chai Chee. Part of the estate today sits atop a hill that overlooks neighbouring Kembangan and Opera Estate. Etymology In the Hokkien language, Chai Chee may be translated to mean ''Vegetable Market'' (菜市). Joo Chiat
Joo Chiat Road ( ) is a road in Katong District and a residential conservation area located in the east coast of Singapore. Joo Chiat Rd intersect East coast Rd and Marine Parde Rd and end at Marine Parade Rd junction beside the new Marine Parade MRT station. It has won several architectural and heritage awards including the United Nations' UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation at 125 Joo Chiat Road.
