East Aurora High School
East Aurora High School, (also known as EAHS or Aurora East High School), is a public, four-year high school located in Kane County, Illinois, Kane County, at the corner of Smith Boulevard and Fifth Avenue in Aurora, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago, Illinois. It is the only high school in East Aurora Public School District 131. History According to "The Educational History of Illinois", private subscription schools were taught by various teachers on the East Side of Aurora starting in 1834. The first class from East Aurora High School - four girls - graduated in 1867. The first high school was built on Center Street, and torn down in the 1960s. In August 1912, East Aurora High School opened a new, larger building on Jackson Street. Slade Deville Cutter (November 1, 1911 – June 9, 2005) was a career U.S. naval officer who was awarded four Navy Crosses and tied for second place for Japanese ships sunk in World War II. James Washington Compton (born April 7, 1939), also known as Jim Compton, is an American businessman and civil rights activist who served as president and CEO of the Chicago Urban League from 1978 until 2006. Linda Chapa LaVia (born August 16, 1966) is an American politician and was a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 83rd District from 2003 until 2019, when she retired to accept an appointment to the cabinet of Illinois Governor J. Charles Pierce Burton (1862–1949) was a newspaper columnist and author of the "Bob's Hill" young adult books. Biographical details Burton was born in Anderson, Indiana, in Madison County. His father worked for a newspaper and met his mother when she wrote columns for the paper as a student. As a child, Burton moved to Adams, Massachusetts, where he hiked around a ridge called Bob's Hill on the eastern slope of Mt. Greylock in Berkshire County. Kurt Frank Becker (born December 22, 1958) is an American former professional football player who was a guard in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Michigan Wolverines from 1978 to 1981, earning consensus All-American honors in 1981.
