Earlscourt is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is centred on St. Clair Avenue West, with Dufferin Street, Davenport Road, and Old Weston Road forming its boundaries. It is contained within the larger city-recognized neighbourhood of Corso Italia-Davenport. Earlscourt Park is located on the south side of St. Clair between Caledonia Park Road and Lansdowne Avenue. History Earlscourt began as a squatter settlement in the early 20th century and annexed by the City of Toronto in 1910. It was initially settled by British and Scottish immigrants. During World War I, the area had some of the highest enlistment rates in the British Empire. Several of the original settler shacks are still visible in the area. After the war the area became the centre of Toronto's Italian community, and it has remained a centre for Italian culture in Toronto. The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB, known as English-language Separate District School Board No. 40 prior to 1999) is an English-language public-separate school board for Toronto, Ontario, Canada, headquartered in North York. It is one of the two English boards of education serving the city of Toronto. Oakwood Village, formerly known as Oakwood–Vaughan, is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Located in the former inner suburb of York, the neighbourhood is a Business Improvement Area (BIA); it has an annual arts festival and a public library built in 1997. The neighbourhood, commonly known as OV, is bordered by Eglinton Avenue West to the north ( Briar Hill–Belgravia), Dufferin Street to the west ( Caledonia–Fairbank), St. Clair Avenue West to the south ( Corso Italia and Bracondale Hill), and Winona Drive to the east ( Humewood–Cedarvale). Fairbank is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The area is centred on the intersection of Dufferin Street and Eglinton Avenue West. Fairbank includes the neighbourhoods of Briar Hill–Belgravia (North of Eglinton Avenue West) and Caledonia–Fairbank (South of Eglinton Avenue West). The western border is the CNR lines. The northern and southern borders are the former borders of the City of York and the eastern border is Dufferin Street (Oakwood Village). Silverthorn, often misspelled as Silverthorne, is a neighbourhood and former postal village in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The approximate boundaries are the GO Transit Barrie line railway tracks to the east, Black Creek Drive and the CP railway line to the west and the former boundaries of the City of York to the north and south. The neighbourhood west of Keele Street is known as Keelesdale. For demographic purposes, the city breaks the area down into two neighbourhoods: Keelesdale-Eglinton West, south of Eglinton, and Beechborough-Greenbrook north of Eglinton. Hudson College is a co-educational, non-denominational private school for students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. It is situated on a 4.5-acre campus in the former Earlscourt Junior Public School in central Toronto, Ontario. History Hudson College was established in early 2003. Sisters Of Loreto
The Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose members are commonly known as the Loreto Sisters, is a Roman Catholic religious congregation of women dedicated to education founded in Saint-Omer by an Englishwoman, Mary Ward (nun), Mary Ward, in 1609. The congregation takes its name from the Marian shrine at Loreto, Marche, Loreto in Italy where Ward used to pray. Ward was declared Venerable by Pope Benedict XVI on 19 December 2009.
