Earl Turner (film Editor)
Earl Carver Turner (27 March 1884 – 6 November 1971) was a film editor of the Frank Buck serial ''Jungle Menace''. Early years Earl Turner was born in Nebraska and was the son of James R Turner, a telegraph operator, and Mary Elizabeth Stanfield. Earl grew up and worked on a farm in Indiana. Career During World War I, Turner worked as a film editor for Triangle Film Corporation. Frank Buck (animal Collector)
Frank Howard Buck (March 17, 1884 – March 25, 1950) was an American hunter, animal collector, and author, as well as a film actor, director, and producer. Beginning in the 1910s he made many expeditions into Asia for the purpose of hunting and collecting exotic animals, bringing over 100,000 live specimens back to the United States and elsewhere for zoos and circuses and earning a reputation as an adventurer. He co-authored seven books chronicling or based on his expeditions, beginning with 1930's ''Bring 'Em Back Alive (book), Bring 'Em Back Alive'', which became a bestseller. Between 1932 and 1943 he starred in seven adventure films based on his exploits, most of which featured staged "fights to the death" with various wild beasts. ''Jungle Menace'' (1937) is the first serial released by Columbia Pictures. Based on the success of Republic Pictures's 1936 serial ''Darkest Africa'', starring real-life animal trainer Clyde Beatty, Columbia made this exotic jungle serial starring real-life animal collector Frank "Bring 'Em Back Alive" Buck. Set in the fictional land of ''Seemang'' in Asia, Buck plays the role of Frank Hardy, a soldier of fortune who intervenes in and investigates attempts to run a rubber plantation owner and his daughter off their land. It was directed by Harry L. Fraser and George Melford, and filmed in black and white in Stockton, California, USA. Triangle Film Corporation (also known as Triangle Motion Picture Company) was a major American motion-picture studio, founded in July 1915 in Culver City, California and terminated 7 years later in 1922. Reeves Eason and starring Gene Autry, Frankie Darro, and Betsy King Ross.Magers 2007, p. 21. This 12-chapter Mascot Pictures serial combined the Western (genre), Western, Musical theatre, musical and science-fiction genres. The duration of the first episode is 30 minutes, while that of the rest is about 20 minutes.
