Bert Eardley
Bertram Cooper Eardley (1879–1929) was an English footballer. He made 220 appearances (148 in the Football League) and scored 40 goals (14 in the Football League) for Port Vale over about ten seasons with the club. He established himself as a regular first-team player, but had spells of inconsistency which left him out of the side for large periods. Ever the loyal Valiant, it is believed he did not join another team in 1907 when the club suffered financial meltdown and liquidation, instead he re-signed in December 1908 and went straight into the first-team. He left for good in the summer of 1910. Career Eardley joined Burslem Port Vale in the summer of 1899, scoring on his debut on 10 February 1900 in a 1–1 draw with Luton Town at Dunstable Road. He did not feature again in the 1899–1900 season, though he did score seven goals in 30 games in 1900–01, including the only goal against Woolwich Arsenal at the Athletic Ground on the last day of the season. Billy Eardley
William George Eardley (1871–?) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Burslem Port Vale and Stoke. A pacey, quality player he was also prone to sulking. Career Eardley joined Burslem Port Vale in May 1894. In the 1894–95 season he only played nine games but did score three goals. Two of his goals came against Newcastle United at St James' Park in a 2–1 win on 12 April. His other goal came eight days later, in an end-of-season 4–0 win over Crewe Alexandra at the Athletic Ground. He switched to Newcastle Swifts in the summer of 1895. He returned to Vale in September of that year. He still failed to become a first-team regular and claimed four goals in ten games in the 1895–96 season. The goals came in two braces against Darwen on 5 and 19 October. In August 1896, he moved on to Stoke. Constance Margaret Eardley
Constance Margaret Eardley (6 September 1910 – 15 May 1978) was an Australian systematic botanist, lecturer and curator. She was the first woman appointed to the Council of the Royal Society of South Australia. Early life and education Constance Margaret Eardley was born in Fullarton, South Australia on 6 September 1910. Her mother was an historian and her father, Frederick William Eardley (1874–1958), was an accountant who served as registrar at the University of Adelaide. She completed her secondary education at Walford Anglican School for Girls, receiving honours in the leaving certificate. She was later president of its alumni association. While studying for her undergraduate degree, Eardley was awarded the John Bagot Scholarship and Medal in 1928. She graduated from the University of Adelaide with a BSc in 1931 and received the Ernest Ayres Scholarship for her botanical work. Francis Eardley (1885–1954) was an English footballer who played for Port Vale and Stoke. Career Eardley started his career with non-League amateur sides Hanley Town, Tunstall Park and Goldenhill Wanderers. George Harold Eardley
Company Sergeant Major George Harold Eardley VC, MM (6 May 1912 – 11 September 1991) was a British Army soldier and an English recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Brother of Arnold Eardley and Elgin Eardley. Eardley was 32 years old, and an acting sergeant in the 4th Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry, British Army during the Second World War when he was awarded the VC. On 16 October 1944 east of Overloon, the Netherlands, Sergeant Eardley's platoon was ordered to clear some orchards where a strong opposition was holding up the advance, but away from the objective the platoon was halted by automatic fire from machine-gun posts. Joan Eardley
Joan Kathleen Harding Eardley (18 May 192116 August 1963) was a British artist noted for her portraiture of street children in Glasgow and for her landscapes of the fishing village of Catterline and surroundings on the North-East coast of Scotland. One of Scotland's most enduringly popular artists, her career was cut short by breast cancer. Her artistic career had three distinct phases. The first was from 1940 when she enrolled at the Glasgow School of Art through to 1949 when she had a successful exhibition of paintings created while travelling in Italy. From 1950 to 1957, Eardley's work focused on the city of Glasgow and in particular the slum area of Townhead. In the late 1950s, while still living in Glasgow, she spent much time in Catterline before moving there permanently in 1961. Life and career Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Eardley first started on trumpet at the age of 11; his father played in Paul Whiteman's orchestra. From 1946 to 1949 Eardley played in an Air Force band in Washington, D.C., then led with his own quartet in D.C. from 1950 to 1953. He moved to New York City in 1953, playing with Phil Woods (1954), Gerry Mulligan (1954–57), and Hal McIntyre (1956). Following this he returned to his hometown and played there until 1963, when he moved to Belgium. In 1969 he moved to Cologne, Germany, playing there with and Chet Baker and working through the 1980s. The last years before death he played in the WDR Big Band Cologne, Germany. Neal Eardley
Neal James Eardley (born 6 November 1988) is a former Wales international footballer who last played for Cymru Premier champions Connah’s Quay Nomads. He represented Wales at under-17, under-19 and under-21 levels, before winning the first of his 16 senior caps in August 2007. Eardley is now a coach for former club Blackpool. He began his career at Oldham Athletic, and made his first team debut in May 2006. He turned professional four months later and quickly became a regular first team player before he was named in the 2008–09 League One PFA Team of the Year. He was signed by Blackpool in August 2009 for a reported fee of £350,000. Richard Roy "Dick" Eardley (December 23, 1928 – June 30, 2012) served three terms as mayor of Boise, Idaho, from 1974 to 1986. Eardley served as mayor for a total of 12 years, longer than anyone else in Boise history until Dave Bieter won a fourth consecutive four-year term in 2015. In city history, only Eardley and Bieter have won three consecutive four-year terms as mayor. Eardley was re-elected in 1977 and 1981. (Edward) Eardley Knollys (1902–1991) was a member of the Bloomsbury Group of artists - variously an art critic, art dealer and collector, active from the 1920s to 1950s. He only himself began to paint in 1949, and had his first solo exhibition at the age of 58 in 1960, by which time he was already a "minor legend in British art". Born in Alresford, Hampshire to Cyprian Robert Knollys, a land agent descended from a junior branch of the family of the Earl of Banbury and his wife Audrey (née Hill), he was educated at Winchester College and Christ Church, Oxford. Knollys, along with his life partner Frank Coombs ran The Storran Gallery at 106 Brompton Road, opposite Harrods, from 1936 and 1944. Eardley John Norton (19 February 1852 – 13 July 1931) was a Madras barrister, Coroner and politician of British origin. He was also one of the earliest members of the Indian National Congress and a champion of civil liberties and rights of the Indian people. Early life Eardley was born in India in 1852, the eldest son of lawyer John Bruce Norton, who had served as Advocate-General of Madras. He received his education in Rugby School, England. He matriculated on 15 October 1870 at the age of 18 and graduated in arts from Merton College, Oxford. He read law at Lincoln's Inn and was called to bar in 1876. In 1879, he set sail to India to practice in the Madras High Court. Practice in Madras Eardley Norton practised as a lawyer in Madras from 1879 to 1906.
