EV5 Via Romea Francigena
EuroVelo 5 (EV5), named the ''Via Romea Francigena'', is a long EuroVelo long-distance cycling route running from Canterbury to Rome and ending at the Italian port of Brindisi. The route crosses Europe passing successively through six countries: UK, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, France again, Switzerland and Italy. The EV5 is named the ''Via Romea Francigena'' after the ancient road from France to Rome that passed over the high Alps: this is reflected in the old road's Latin name, ''Via Romea Francigena'', which means "the way to Rome that comes from France". This route was notably documented by Archbishop of Canterbury, Sigeric the Serious who made the trip to Rome and back again in the 10th century. Note that there is also a walking trail called the ''Via Francigena'' which follows Sigeric's route from Canterbury to Rome more closely. The European Cyclists' Federation (ECF) is a non-profit member-based umbrella federation of local, regional and national civil society organizations that promote cycling for both transportation and leisure. Soultz-les-Bains
Soultz-les-Bains (; historical german: Sulzbad, ) is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Grand Est, France. In 1682, the famous military engineer Vauban constructed the Canal de la Bruche between Soultz and Strasbourg. The canal was needed in order to transport sandstone from the quarries of Soultz for use in his fortification of Strasbourg. The canal carried its last commercial load in 1939 and was formally closed in 1957. Canal De La Bruche
The ''Canal de la Bruche'' is a canal in eastern France that originally connected Soultz-les-Bains, near Molsheim, to the city of Strasbourg. It was built in 1682 by the famous military engineer Vauban, principally to transport sandstone from the quarries of Soultz for use in the construction of the fortifications of Strasbourg. The last commercial load was carried in 1939 and the canal formally closed in 1957, after bridges damaged during World War II were rebuilt with insufficient headroom for navigation. The canal is long and has 11 locks on its course, with a total rise of almost . Marne–Rhine Canal
The Canal de la Marne au Rhin (Marne–Rhine Canal) is a canal in north-eastern France. It connects the river Marne and the Canal entre Champagne et Bourgogne in Vitry-le-François with the port of Strasbourg on the Rhine. Gondrexange (; german: Gunderchingen) is a commune in the Moselle department in Grand Est in north-eastern France. Geography This municipality is located in the historic region of Lorraine and is part of the ''pays de Sarrebourg''.
