EV1 The Atlantic Coast Route
EuroVelo 1 (EV1), named the ''Atlantic Coast Route'', is a long EuroVelo long-distance cycling route running from North Cape in Norway to Sagres in Portugal. This north-south route runs (mostly) along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean of Western Europe and passes successively through eight countries: Norway, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, France, Spain and Portugal. Route In Norway North Cape (EV7, EV11), Tromsø, Vestvågøy, Bodø, Trondheim (EV3), Alesund, Bergen (EV12). Note that since 2008, ferry services no longer operate between Bergen in Norway and the Scottish city of Aberdeen. This can be done by air, however. ''EuroVelo'' is a network of currently 17 long-distance cycling routes criss-crossing Europe, in various stages of completion. When completed, the EuroVelo network's total length will almost be . more than were in place. EuroVelo is a project of the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF). EuroVelo routes can be used for bicycle touring across the continent, as well as by local people making short journeys. National Cycle Network
The National Cycle Network (NCN) is the national cycling route network of the United Kingdom, which was established to encourage cycling and walking throughout Britain, as well as for the purposes of bicycle touring. It was created by the charity Sustrans who were aided by a £42.5 million National Lottery grant. However Sustrans themselves only own around 2% of the paths on the network, these rest being made of existing public highways and rights of way, and permissive paths negotiated by Sustrans with private landowners, which Sustrans have then labelled as part of their network. In 2017, the Network was used for over 786 million cycling and walking trips, made by 4.4 million people. In 2020, around a quarter the NCN was scrapped on safety grounds, leaving of signed routes. The Médoc (; oc, label= Gascon, Medòc ) is a region of France, well known as a wine growing region, located in the '' département'' of Gironde, on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, north of Bordeaux. Its name comes from ''( Pagus) Medullicus'', or "country of the '' Medulli''", the local Celtic tribe.
