EMD GM10B
The GM10B was a solitary electric testbed locomotive with a power output of which was intended for use on high-speed freight services on the Northeast Corridor. Built by American locomotive builder Electro-Motive Division (EMD) at its La Grange, Illinois, plant in collaboration with ASEA of Sweden. It entered service with Penn Central in August 1976 and featured a B-B-B wheel arrangement, a first for the North American market, while having a high proportion of Swedish built components and design features created by ASEA. The Penn Central Transportation Company, commonly abbreviated to Penn Central, was an American class I railroad that operated from 1968 to 1976. Penn Central combined three traditional corporate rivals, the Pennsylvania, New York Central and the New York, New Haven and Hartford railroad, each of which were united by large-scale service into the New York metropolitan area and to a lesser extent New England and Chicago. A Bo-Bo-Bo or Bo′Bo′Bo′ (UIC classification) is a locomotive with three independent two-axle bogies with all axles powered by separate traction motors. In the AAR system, this is simplified to B-B-B due to the system only taking powered axles into consideration, not traction axles. The Bo-Bo-Bo configuration is often used to lower axle weight while keeping lateral forces low compared to a locomotive with two three-axle bogies, thus allowing the locomotive to use lightly laid track, in particular narrow-gauge railways. GMD GF6C
The GF6C was an electric locomotive for freight duties built by General Motors Diesel in collaboration with Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget, ASEA of Sweden. Seven of these locomotives were built in 1983 and 1984, for use on the BC Rail, BC Rail's Railway electrification system, electrified Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, Tumbler Ridge subdivision. Similar to EMD's EMD GM6C, GM6C testbed locomotive, the GF6C used a frame and running gear that was identical to that of EMD's popular EMD SD40-2, SD40-2 diesel-electric locomotive, but had a wide cab and carbody similar to that of GMD's GMD SD40-2F, SD40-2F.
