EA-37B
The EA-37B Compass Call (formerly EC-37B) is an electronic warfare aircraft based on the Gulfstream G550 entering service with the United States Air Force with the first example delivered on 23 August 2024 to Davis–Monthan Air Force Base for crew training. The plane is replacing the EC-130H Compass Call. The role of the Compass Call is to disrupt enemy command and control communications, radars, and navigation systems, significantly hindering adversary coordination as part of the Counter-Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Targeting (Counter-C5ISRT) mission. The jet will be able to conduct jamming of radars, electronic systems and communications. It will thus be able participate in Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD) missions by disrupting an enemy's ability to coordinate sensors and use weapon batteries that target friendly aircraft. Design EA-37B are Gulfstream G550 business jet airframes modified with ...

1962 United States Tri-Service Aircraft Designation System
The Tri-Service aircraft designation system is a unified system introduced in 1962 by the United States Department of Defense for designating all U.S. military aircraft. Previously, the U.S. armed services used United States military aircraft designation systems, separate nomenclature systems. Under the tri-service designation system, officially introduced on 18 September 1962, almost all aircraft receive a unified designation, whether they are operated by the United States Air Force (USAF), United States Navy (USN), United States Marine Corps (USMC), United States Army, United States Space Force (USSF), or United States Coast Guard (USCG). Experimental aircraft operated by manufacturers or by NASA are also often assigned designations from the List of X-planes, X-series of the tri-service system. The 1962 system was based on the one used by the USAF between 1948 and 1962, which was in turn based on the type, model, series 1924 United States Army Air Service aircraft designation ...

Electronic Warfare Aircraft
An electronic-warfare aircraft is a military aircraft equipped for electronic warfare (EW), that is, degrading the effectiveness of enemy radar and radio systems by using radar jamming and deception methods. In 1943, British Avro Lancaster aircraft were equipped with chaff in order to blind enemy air defence radars. They were supplemented by specially-equipped aircraft flown by No. 100 Group RAF, which operated modified Halifaxes, Liberators and Fortresses carrying various jammers such as ''Carpet'', '' Airborne Cigar'', ''Mandrel'', ''Jostle'', and ''Piperack''. List of electronic-warfare aircraft Examples of modern aircraft designed or modified for EW include: * Antonov An-12BK-PPS (Soviet Union) * Antonov An-26REP (Soviet Union) * Boeing EA-18G Growler (United States) * Denel TP1 Oryx EW (South Africa) * Douglas C-47TP EW (South Africa) * Douglas EA-3 Skywarrior (United States) * Douglas EB-66 Destroyer (United States) * Douglas EF-10B Skyknight (United States) ...
