Dutt Yanni
Dutt Yanni (November 27, 1923 – March 1, 1982) was an American pioneering driver of modified stock cars. In 1961, he became the inaugural track champion at the then Mil-Ray Raceway in Fulton, New York. Racing career Dutt Yanni competed throughout the 1950s on both asphalt and dirt racetracks in Central New York, including the Brewerton Speedway, Rochester's Monroe County Fairgrounds, and Williamson's Spencer Speedway, as well as venues in Pennsylvania and Canada. Yanni was crowned New York State Champion with his victory at the 1954 State Fair. Watertown Speedway was a 1/2 mile dirt oval raceway located at the Jefferson County fairgrounds in Watertown, New York. History Auto racing was first presented at the former horse track located on Coffeen St in 1936 and again in 1940, when the Jefferson County Fair featured sprint car races sanctioned by the American Automobile Association. In 1949, the Fair introduced the International Midget Auto Racing Association, which returned for two additional shows the same year. Adirondack Stock Car Club In 1951, Brewerton and Vernon Speedway promoter Al Richardson bought stock cars to Watertown for the first time, but by the end of that year, George Clark and George “Bud” Herbert, owners of the Edgewood Speedway in nearby Alexandria Bay took over promotion. Oswego Speedway
The Oswego Speedway is a 5/8 mile race track in Oswego, New York. It was built in 1951 and was paved with asphalt since the 1952. The track has held dates on several national tours - the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, ASA National Tour, and USAC Silver Crown Series. It was temporarily covered with dirt in 2016 when it held a one-off Super DIRTcar Series race. The track is the Labor Day Weekend home of the 200-lap, non-wing, big-block supermodified Budweiser Classic and Race of Champions (a modified touring series event). Spencer Speedway
Spencer Speedway is a flat asphalt oval located in Williamson, New York. The complex also includes a quarter-mile dragway. Overview Spencer Speedway was built by brothers Del, Walt and Merle Spencer, and opened in August 1955. The brothers operated the facility until 1993 when it was sold to Todd Hartman and rebranded the Apple Valley Speedway. Due to financial issues, Hartman transferred the property to his brother-in-law, Jeffrey Tome, but by 1996 the Spencer brothers resumed control. It was purchased by John White in 2005, who also owned the Chemung Speedrome. Since 2018 the facility has been managed by Joe Scotnicki's Race of Champions organization. The Dome Center is a fair and convention complex located in Henrietta, New York, just outside the city of Rochester. It was originally part of a 60 acre site that hosted the annual Monroe County (NY) Fair between 1947 and 2013. Brewerton Speedway
Brewerton Speedway is a 1/3rd mile D-shaped dirt oval raceway in Brewerton, New York. It is considered one of the oldest jewels of the robust Central New York racing scene. History The Brewerton Speedway was built as a ¼ mile clay racetrack in 1949 by Vere Bradbury and Don Georgia, who sold it to Al Richardson. The first event was a dirt track midget car race. The track was paved in 1956, and the current 1/3 mile dirt oval opened in 1973. Richardson remained owner until 1965, after which the racetrack went through a series of owners and promoters, as well as several years of inactivity. In 1994, Harvey, Joan, and David Fink purchased the track. Since 2009, the track, along with the Fulton Speedway, has been owned by John and Laura Wight.
