A Dutch cap or Dutch bonnet is a style of woman's hat associated with the various traditional Dutch woman's costumes. Usually made of white cotton or lace, it is sometimes characterized by triangular flaps or wings that turn up on either side. Johannes Vermeer
Johannes Vermeer ( , ; see below; also known as Jan Vermeer; October 1632 – 15 December 1675) was a Dutch painter who specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle-class life. He is considered one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age. During his lifetime, he was a moderately successful provincial genre painter, recognized in Delft and The Hague. Arnemuiden
Arnemuiden is a city#Netherlands, city of around 5000 people in the municipality of Middelburg, Zeeland, Middelburg in the province of Zeeland in the Netherlands. It is located on the former island of Walcheren, about 3 km east of the city of Middelburg. On the 23 September 1338, at the start of the Hundred Years' War between England and France, a Battle of Arnemuiden, naval battle was held near Arnemuiden. It was the first naval battle of the Hundred Years' War and the first naval battle using artillery, as the English ship ''Christofer'' had three cannons and one handgun. In 1573, Arnemuiden was destroyed by Spanish troops and more than 300 citizens were killed. Even though only a couple of hundred people were left, it received City rights in the Netherlands, city rights in 1574. Until 1997, Arnemuiden was a separate municipality.
