Durham College Rowing
Durham College Rowing (commonly abbreviated to DCR) represents all sixteen college boat clubs in Durham University and organises some rowing activities on behalf of all member clubs. In February 2020, together with Durham University Boat Club, DCR members made up c.30% of the rowers, scullers and coxes in the British Rowing northern region. The intake of freshers each year attracts large numbers to take up the sport with typically around 500 joining learn to row courses each autumn. DCR organises inter-collegiate competitions, trailers to competitions off the River Wear, training courses (learn to cox, coaching, launch driving), swim tests, Senate Boat Club, and an annual ball for rowers across the university. DCR also provides a forum for college captains to meet and discuss current rowing events, particularly safety issues, with each other and with the executive committee. River Tees
The River Tees (), in England, rises on the eastern slope of Cross Fell in the North Pennines and flows eastwards for to reach the North Sea in the North East of England. The modern-day history of the river has been tied with the industries on Teesside in its lower reaches, where it has provided the means of import and export of goods to and from the North East England. The need for water further downstream also meant that reservoirs were built in the extreme upper reaches, such as Cow Green. Etymology The name ''Tees'' is possibly of Brittonic origin. Grey College Boat Club
Grey College Boat Club (GCBC) is the rowing club of Grey College at Durham University in North East England. The club has over 70 active members and shares its boathouse with Josephine Butler College Boat Club. The club competes at a national, regional and college level. GCBC is a registered Boat Club through British Rowing, with Boat Code "GRC" and is a member organisation of Durham College Rowing. Boathouse and Fleet Grey College Boat House is located at Dunelm House on the River Wear between Kingsgate Bridge and Elvet Bridge, a ten-minute walk away from Grey College. Grey College Boat Club owns two VIIIs, an Empacher called ' Eric Halladay' and a Vespoli called 'Tom James'. Collingwood College Boat Club
Collingwood College Boat Club (CCBC) is the rowing club of Collingwood College, part of Durham University. CCBC was formed in 1981 and is housed in the Collingwood College boathouse on the north bank of the regatta stretch of the River Wear. The boathouse used to belong to St Hild's College, before it merged with Bede College to form College of St Hild and St Bede, Durham. Collingwood has raced at Henley Royal Regatta four times and is a regular entrant to the Head of the River Race, Women's Head of the River Race and Durham Regatta. CCBC is a registered Boat Club through British Rowing, with Boat Code "COC" and is a member organisation of Durham College Rowing. Henley Women's Regatta
Henley Women's Regatta, often abbreviated to "HWR" or "Women's Henley", is a rowing regatta held at Henley-on-Thames, England. Chris Aistrop and Rosemary Mayglothling were jointly responsible for setting up the Regatta in June 1988 and Aistrop was the first chairman. The first regatta was held in 1988, as a response to the absence of women's events at Henley Royal Regatta at the time. While Henley Royal Regatta now offers eight women's events, Women's Henley has continued to build and expand. Henley Women's Regatta now lasts three full days, and includes time trials for over-subscribed events. Henley Women's Regatta is held on the Thames River at Henley, using the same, but shortened, boomed course as Henley Royal (the shorter course is due to Environment Agency safety restrictions and the short intervals between races at HWR). University rowing in the United Kingdom began when it was introduced to Oxford in the late 18th century. Durham Regatta
Durham Regatta is a regatta, rowing regatta held annually on the second weekend in June on the River Wear in Durham, England, Durham, North East of England; It is known as the Henley of the North, but began several years before the more prestigious Henley Royal Regatta. Durham Regatta is the second-oldest rowing regatta in England, preceded only by Chester Regatta.
