Durham CELLS
Durham CELLS (Centre for Ethics and Law in the Life Sciences) is a research centre at Durham University, based in Durham Law School. It focuses on the legal and ethical issues raised by biological science, medicine and regulation: biolaw and bioethics. It was founded in December 2011 and has members from anthropology, biology, law, medicine, philosophy, sociology and theology. Durham CELLS is an established expert research centre in biolaw and bioethics. Durham University

Durham Law School is the law school of Durham University in Durham, England. Biolaw
Biolaw is an area of law that addresses the intersection of law and the biosciences. Biolaw addresses topics from CRISPR to genetic engineering to the patenting of new forms of life to de-extinction law. The Association of American Law Schools has had a chartered section on biolaw since 2010. The field of biolaw has been of growing importance in the last several years with the rise of legal issues such as those surrounding biohacking, reproduction, surrogacy, and de-extinction. Shaun Pattinson
Shaun D. Pattinson is a British legal scholar specializing in medical law and medical ethics. He currently serves as a Professor of Medical Law and Ethics at Durham Law School, Durham University. In 2011, he founded the Centre for Ethics and Law in the Life Sciences ( Durham CELLS) at Durham University. Deryck Beyleveld
Deryck Beyleveld is founding Director of the Sheffield Institute of Biotechnological Law and Ethics (SIBLE) and is now a member of Durham CELLS (Centre for Ethics and Law in the Life Sciences). He is Professor of Law and Bioethics, and a former Head of Law School at Durham University. He is on the editorial board of Medical Law International. Education He was educated at the University of the Witwatersrand, Pembroke College, Cambridge, and completed his PhD at the University of East Anglia in 1975. Career Professor Beyleveld is the leading exponent of the moral theory of the late Alan Gewirth and, as such, his work has attracted extensive academic support and criticism. Emma Cave
Emma Cave is a British legal scholar who specialises in health law and the regulation of emerging technologies. She is Professor of Healthcare Law at Durham Law School, Durham University, where she works on the intersection of law, bioethics and health. Early life and education Born Emma Pickworth, she attended Lady Manners School, a state secondary school in Bakewell. She went on to complete an LLB, M.Jur and PhD. General Medical Council
The General Medical Council (GMC) is a public body that maintains the official register of physician, medical practitioners within the United Kingdom. Its chief responsibility is to "protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of the public" by controlling entry to the register, and suspending or removing members when necessary. It also sets the standards for medical schools in the UK. Membership of the register confers substantial privileges under Part VI of the Medical Act 1983.
