Duqm Special Economic Zone Authority
Duqm () is a port town on the coastal strip of the Arabian Sea open to the Indian Ocean. It is about 550 km from Muscat. As of 2017, the population was approximately 12,000. History Duqm was a small fishing settlement on the coast of southern Oman, populated by the Janubah tribe. In February 1954, a party of soldiers of the Muscat and Oman Field Force and geologists of Petroleum Development Oman landed to begin oil exploration in central Oman. Although Duqm was a fishing village until recently, in 2011 the Omani government launched plans to transform the town into an industrial hub and port city. During the 2010s Duqm grew at a breakneck pace; one resident said in 2018 that "five years ago there was nothing here." Arabian Oryx Sanctuary
The Wildlife Reserve in Al Wusta, formerly the Arabian Oryx Sanctuary, is a nature reserve in the Omani Central Desert and Coastal Hills. In a much larger form, it was included in the UNESCO ''World Heritage'' list, but in 2007 it became the first site to be removed from the World Heritage list. On June 28, 2007, the reserve was removed from the World Heritage Site register. UNESCO cited Oman's decision to reduce Arabian Oryx Sanctuary by 90% after oil had been found at the site, and the decline of the population of Arabian oryx (a kind of antelope) from 450 in 1996 to 65 in 2007 as a result of poaching and habitat destruction. Duqm Airport
Duqm Airport is an airport serving the Arabian Sea port of Duqm in the Al Wusta Region of Oman. Duqm Airport kicked off its operations on July 23, 2014, to serve passengers between Duqm and Muscat through a temporary building. On September 17, 2018, the passenger terminal, which can accommodate 500,000 passengers annually, started its operations with an area of 8,660 sq. ft. and passenger terminal with two jet bridges. The airport includes a cargo building with a capacity of 25,000 tonnes annually, with the possibility of expanding it according to future demand. The airport also has a runway of 4 kilometres long and 75 metres with connecting corridors and aircraft parking slots. The airport is south of the town.
