Duo Ruut
Duo Ruut are an Estonians, Estonian, contemporary-folk duo formed in 2015 by schoolmates and friends, musicians and songwriters, Ann-Lisett Rebane and Katariina Kivi. While contemporary, their songwriting is inspired by Estonian traditions amongst those of other cultures. They perform their songs by both simultaneously playing a single kannel (instrument), kannel (an Estonian zither) between them, plucked as traditionally intended, bowed, and also as a percussive instrument, all while singing. Rebane and Kivi began making music together in the fifth-grade of school, and entered a joint folk project into competition, (English: Youth Band). They both studied composition at school, and have cited Scandinavian and Nordic countries, Nordic role-models. Kivi, who also plays the cello and bagpipes, enjoys and is influence by the Danish String Quartet, and also has an interest in Estonian traditional musician Maarja Nuut. Hooandja
Hooandja is an Estonian crowdfunding platform created in 2012 to support and realize creative projects. It is the largest crowdfunding platform in the Baltic countries. The company is registered in Tartu with its headquarters located in Tallinn. History The platform was launched in 2012 by Henri Laupmaa, Tiiu Sullakatko, Tanel Karp, and Halina Mugame with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Initially, the platform charged a commission of just 3% on successfully completed projects (later increased to 8%), and it operated exclusively in Estonia. The platform's founders noted that in the first year, profits were insufficient to cover operating costs, but they had high hopes for expanding operations and creating similar systems abroad. WOMAD ( ; World of Music, Arts and Dance) is an international arts festival. The central aim of WOMAD is to celebrate the world's many forms of music, arts and dance.
