Dunkwa
Dunkwa-On-Offin or simply Dunkwa, is a town and the capital of the Upper Denkyira East Municipal District, a district in the Central Region of south Ghana. Dunkwa-On-Offin has a 2013 settlement population of 33,379 people. Geography Topography Dunkwa-On-Offin town is located along the Offin River. Dunkwa-On-Offin is low-lying with loose quaternary sands and the town rises up to 117 metres above sea level. The town is drained by a number of rivers and streams, including the Offin River and other small steams. Denkyira
Denkyira (also known as Denkira, Denchira, Inguira, or Dinkira) was a powerful Akan kingdom that rose to prominence in precolonial Ghana, dominating large parts of the forest zone in the south-central Gold Coast. Centered around its capital at Abankeseso, Denkyira emerged as a leading gold-producing polity and a formidable military power, particularly during the 17th century. It wielded considerable influence over neighboring states such as Adansi, Sefwi , Aowin, Wassa, Assin, Twifo, and Kwaman, and played a critical role in shaping regional trade and warfare. In 1701, Denkyira was defeated by the Asante Empire and became a vassal. Upper Denkyira East Municipal District
Upper Denkyira East Municipal District is one of the thirty-three districts in Central Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Upper Denkyira District in 1988, which was created from the former Denkyira District Council, until the northwest part of the district was split off to create Upper Denkyira West District on 29 February 2008; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Upper Denkyira East District, which it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status on that same year to become Upper Denkyira East Municipal District. Districts Of Ghana
The Districts of Ghana are second-level administrative subdivisions of Ghana, below the level of Regions of Ghana, region. There are currently 261 local metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (or MMDA's). History The districts of Ghana were re-organized in 1988/1989 in an attempt to decentralize the government and to assist in development. The reform of the late 1980s subdivided the regions of Ghana into 110 districts, where local district assemblies should deal with the local administration. By 2006, an additional 28 districts were created by splitting some of the original 110, bringing their number up to 138. In February 2008, there were more districts created and some were upgraded to municipal status. This brought the final number to 170 districts in Ghana. Offin River
The Ofin River is an easterly-flowing waterway in Ghana. It flows through the Tano Ofin Reserve in Ghana's Atwima Mponua District. The Ofin riverbed is 90 metres above mean sea level. The Ofin has cut steep side channels, average depth 12–15 metres, into the rolling terrain over which it flows. The Ofin and the Pra rivers form the boundary between Ghana's Ashanti region and Central region. Dunkwa-on-Offin is a major town on the river. Gold is mined from the river's sediment.
