Dune 7 (Namibia)
Dune 7, located outside of Walvis Bay and became a landmark as it was 7 miles from the town centre. Dune 7 is part of the dune belt the runs from Walvis Bay to Swakopmund and is often visited by tourists. This dune is located inside the Dorob National Park and is managed under concession by Sandwich Dune Tours and Safari as of the 15th of June 2023. Walvis Bay
Walvis Bay (; ; ) is a city in Namibia and the name of the bay on which it lies. It is the List of cities in Namibia, second largest city in Namibia and the largest coastal city in the country. The city covers an area of of land. The bay is a haven for sea vessels due to its natural deep-water harbour, protected by the Pelican Point sand spit, which is the only natural harbour of any size along the country's coast. Being rich in plankton and marine life, these waters also draw large numbers of southern right whales, attracting whalers and fishing vessels. A succession of colonists developed the location and resources of this strategic harbour settlement. The harbour's value about the sea route around the Cape of Good Hope had caught the attention of world powers since it was discovered by the outside world in 1485. Dorob National Park
The Dorob National Park ("dry land") is a protected area in the Erongo region, along the central Namibian coast, gazetted as a national park under the Nature Conservation Ordinance No.4 of 1975 on 1 December 2010. It is in length, and with Namib-Naukluft Park it covers an area of . The park extends from the Kuiseb Delta (south of Walvis Bay), north to the Ugab River, and west from the Atlantic Ocean to what was before the National West Coast Tourist Recreation Area. Some 75 species of birds flock to this coast, with nearly 1.6 million birds recorded on the coast. History Before the park was declared a national park, as part of the larger intent to create one continuous coastal protected area, it was called the Walvis Bay Nature Reserve under the Cape Department of Nature Conservation. A dune is a landform composed of wind- or water-driven sand. It typically takes the form of a mound, ridge, or hill. An area with dunes is called a dune system or a dune complex. A large dune complex is called a dune field, while broad, flat regions covered with wind-swept sand or dunes, with little or no vegetation, are called '' ergs'' or ''sand seas''.
