Dundee Violet F.C.
Dundee Violet Football Club are a Scottish football club based in the city of Dundee. Members of the Scottish Junior Football Association, they currently play in the East Region North Division. Formed in 1883, their home ground is Glenesk Park and the club colours are royal blue. Up until the end of the 2005–06 season, they played in the Tayside Premier League of the Scottish Junior Football Association's Eastern Region. The club won the Scottish Junior Cup in 1928–29, defeating Denny Hibs 4–0 at Dens Park after a second replay. This was due to the original tie being protested as Violet played an ineligible player, then the first replay finishing in a 2–2 draw. In doing so, "the Pansies" became the first club from Tayside to win Junior football's national cup competition. During the summer of 2017, Violet agreed a partnership with local youth club Fairmuir to provide a pathway to adult football for Fairmuir's young players. The Scottish Junior Football Association (SJFA) is an affiliated national association of the Scottish Football Association and is the governing body for the junior grade of football (soccer), football in Scotland. The term "junior" refers to the level of football played, not the age of the players. The closest equivalent terminology would be non-League football in England, the difference being that junior football in Scotland was not similarly integrated into its Scottish football league system, football league system until 2021. The Scottish Junior Football Association, East Region is one of two regions of the SJFA, which currently organises the Midlands League and local cup competitions. The SJFA was previously split into six regions, but in 2002 the decision was taken to reform into three to try to ensure more games between the top clubs and hence increase their revenues; at that time the East Region was created by amalgamating the former East (Lothians), Fife and Tayside Regions. Scottish Junior Cup
The Scottish Junior Cup is an annual football competition organised by the Scottish Junior Football Association (SJFA). The competition has been held every year since the inception of the SJFA on the 2nd October 1886 and, as of the 2023–24 edition, 112 teams compete in the tournament. The cup has an unseeded knockout format with no replays, semi-finals played over two legs, and the final usually played at a neutral venue of an SPFL club. Since the 2006–07 season, the winner of the Junior Cup Final has qualified for the following season's senior Scottish Cup.
