Dundee Roller Derby is a flat track roller derby league based in Dundee, Scotland. There are two travel teams, the Silvery Tayzers (A), and the Bonnie Colliders (B), as well as three home teams who play in intraleague competitions: Jutes of Hazzard, Press Gangsters and Jammin' Dodgers. Dundee Roller Derby is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and has had several members play for Team Scotland Roller Derby. The United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA) is the National Association for roller derby in the UK. The association was formed in 2010 with 15 member leagues, and was recognized by the British Roller Sports Federation soon after. WFTDA Championships
The International Women's Flat Track Derby Association Championships ("WFTDA Championships" or "Champs" for short) are the leading competition for roller derby leagues. The Championships are organised by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). They originated in 2006 as the National WFTDA Championship. The "Dust Devil" tournament was contested in front of several thousand fans in Tucson, Arizona. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Rankings
Rankings for the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) are used to determine placement in overall standings (rather than win–loss record) and also to determine seedings at WFTDA Playoffs. Achieving high rankings is also a goal for teams aiming to increase their stature in the organization. Each year at the end of June, teams are seeded into Division 1 and Division 2 playoff tournaments. Historically, the top 40 teams in the WFTDA as of June 30 were eligible for Division 1 tournaments that season, and the teams ranked 41–60 were eligible for Division 2 tournaments. For 2017, the Division 1 cutoff was reduced to the top 36 teams, with the next 16 teams qualifying for Division 2 Playoffs. Baxter Park
Baxter Park is a park located in the east of Dundee, Scotland. It was designed between 1862-63 and is the only complete park wholly designed by Sir Joseph Paxton in Scotland. The park is included in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland and it features a Category A listed pavilion designed by George Henry Stokes. Baxter Park and the surrounding streets form the Baxter Park Conservation Area. The park is used as a venue for annual Bonfire Night firework displays. History The park was donated to the citizens of the city by Sir David Baxter and his two sisters Mary Ann and Eleanor. The land was acquired in 1861, on a site that at the time was on the edge of the city, and it was laid out at a cost of £40,000, with an additional £10,000 set aside as an endowment to be managed by a board of trustees. 2011 Roller Derby World Cup
The 2011 Roller Derby World Cup was an international women's roller derby tournament organized by ''Blood & Thunder'' magazine. Teams of amateur skaters from around the world were fielded to compete for their respective nations. The inaugural 2011 Roller Derby World Cup was hosted by Toronto Roller Derby, and was held December 1 through 4, 2011, at The Bunker at Downsview Park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was won by Team USA, who beat Team Canada by a score of 336 points to 33 in the final. Live online coverage of the entire event was broadcast on the Derby News Network. Granite City Roller Derby (GCRD) is a roller derby league based in Aberdeen, Scotland. Founded in 2008, the league currently have two teams which compete with teams from other leagues. League Structure The league consists of two travel teams: * Northern Fights (A, established 2008) * The Fight Hawks (B, established June 2015) League history Originating as the Aberdeen Aces, GCRD were the second roller derby league established in Scotland. The league struggled in the early days to find a training hall to practice in and resorted to skating in a local car park when weather allowed. Auld Reekie Roller Derby
Auld Reekie Roller Derby (ARRD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Founded in 2008, ARRD was the first Scottish Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) member. The league aims to create teams with the ability to compete locally and internationally at the highest levels. ARRD play by the rules of the WFTDA, and were officially accepted as an Apprentice League on 5 October 2010. The league graduated as full members of the WFTDA on 1 September 2011. Glasgow Roller Derby is a flat track roller derby league in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded in 2007, the league consists of two travel teams, three home teams and a skater training course for players and referees. Glasgow is a member of the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA), and the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). The league has taken part in international competition, most notably the WFTDA Division 1 Playoff in Jacksonville, Florida in 2015, eventually coming in ninth place.
