Dumuria Upazila
Dumuria () is an upazila of Khulna District in the Division of Khulna, Bangladesh. Etymology Dumuria is named for the presence of ''Dumur'', the Bengali word for Wild Fig. History Ancient Monuments and Antiquities Chenchuri Nilkuthi, Chuknagar Nilkuthi, Madhugram Dak Bungalow. Historical facts In 1948, the Tevaga movement took place in Sobna, Dhanibunia, Kanaidanga, Orabunia and Bakultala villages of the upazila. During the Liberation War, many Bengalis including Prafulla Kumar Biswas, Indubhushan, Lalchand, Amulya, Mahendra, Raicharan, Nihar and Ratan were martyred in the attack of Pak Army in Kalitalapara in April 1971. In addition, 14 soldiers of the allied forces were killed in the face-off between the liberation forces and the allied forces in Shalua Bazar. Chuknagar village was used as a transit point by the Bengali refugees going to India who were suffering from the atrocities of the Pakistan Army in the early days of the Liberation War. An ''upazila'' ( pronounced: ), formerly called ''thana'', is an administrative division in Bangladesh, functioning as a sub-unit of a districts of Bangladesh, district. It can be seen as an analogous to a county or a borough of Western countries. Khan Tipu Sultan
Khan Tipu Sultan (13 December 1950 – 19 August 2017) was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and three time Jatiya Sangsad member for the Jessore-5 constituency. Early life Sultan was born in Dhamalia, Dumuria Upazila, Khulna District in the then East Bengal, Pakistan. He studied at the Sanmilani Institution in Jessore. HMA Gaffar
Haldar Mohammad Abdul Gaffar (11 August 1936 – 12 April 2020), popularly known as HMA Gaffar, was a Bangladeshi politician, freedom fighter, and former Lieutenant Colonel of the Bangladesh Army. He has served as a member of the Jatiya Sangsad and was a state Minister of Commerce. Ainun Nishat
Ainun Nishat (born 29 April 1948) is a water resource and climate change specialist from Bangladesh. As of 2017, he is serving as a professor emeritus of BRAC University. He represented Bangladesh at the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2009, among other international climate-related conferences. Gazi Shamsur Rahman ( – 12 August 1998) was a Bangladeshi lawyer, writer, translator, columnist and television personality. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1985 and Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1983 by the Government of Bangladesh. He wrote over 77 books on law and language in English and Bengali language. Union Parishad
Union council (), also known as union parishad, rural council, rural union and simply union, is the smallest rural administrative and local government unit in Bangladesh, with zila parishads (district councils) being the largest rural authorities and upazila parishads (sub-district council) being the intermediate level. A union council, headed by a chairperson, consists of nine wards. These wards serve the purpose of electing members for general seats, with three additional seats reserved for women, all of which are directly elected. 1991 Bangladesh Census
In 1991, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, conducted a national census in Bangladesh. They recorded data from all of the districts and upazilas and main cities in Bangladesh including statistical data on population size, households, sex and age distribution, marital status, economically active population, literacy and educational attainment, religion, number of children etc. According to the census, Hindus were 10.5 per cent of the population, down from 12.1 per cent as of 1981. Bangladesh have a population of 106,314,992 as per the 1991 national census report. As many as 93,886,769 reported that they were Muslims, 11,184,337 reported as Hindus, 616,626 as Buddhists, 350,839 as Christians and 276,418 as others. In 2011, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics conducted a national census in Bangladesh, which provided a provisional estimate of the total population of the country as 142,319,000. The previous decennial census was the 2001 census. Data were recorded from all of the districts and upazilas and main cities in Bangladesh, including statistical data on population size, households, sex and age distribution, marital status, economically active population, literacy and educational attainment, religion, number of children etc. Bangladesh and India also conducted their first joint census of areas along their border in 2011. According to the census, Hindus constituted 8.5 per cent of the population as of 2011, down from 9.6 per cent in the 2001 census.
