Dumbarton Athletic Football Club was an association football club based in the town of Dumbarton, in Scotland. History The club was founded in 1881. The club was a club of young players; club president (and right-winger) Archibald Little, a shipyard clerk, was still in his teens on foundation, and the club's star players, apprentice shipbuilder Alex Latta, and Geordie Dewar, were in their mid-teens when making their club debuts. Given another star player (James Coleman) was a ship's riveter, and that members of the Denny family had honorary positions on the club's committee, it is likely that the club's origin was in the Denny shipbuilding yard. 1884–85: first competitive season The Athletics were a fast-rising side and in 1884 entered the Scottish Cup for the first time. 1888 Scottish Athletics Championships
The 1888 Scottish Athletics Championships were the sixth national athletics championships to be held in Scotland. They were held under the auspices of the Scottish Amateur Athletic Association at Powderhall Grounds, Edinburgh, on Saturday 23 June 1888. The meet was held in "splendid" weather, and the track was reported to be "in first rate order," but a slight easterly wind affected performances. Ernest Stones (Ulverston AC) set a Scottish All-comers record in defending his pole vault title. Three days after finishing second in the 4 miles at the championship Andrew Hannah set a Scottish All-comers record at the event running 21:02 2/5 at Ibrox Park, Glasgow. Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn Rovers Football Club is a professional football club, based in Blackburn, Lancashire, England, which competes in the , the second tier of the English football league system. Geordie Dewar
George Dewar (20 July 1867 – 2 September 1915) was a Scottish footballer who played in the early days of professional football for Blackburn Rovers as well as being capped twice for Scotland. Playing career Dewar was born in Dumbarton, Scotland; he served his apprenticeship as a ship's upholsterer before embarking on a full-time career as a professional footballer. A powerful centre half, he came to prominence in local football with Dumbarton Athletic before joining Dumbarton in September 1887, winning his two caps in the two subsequent years. His first cap came on 24 March 1888 in the British Home Championship match at the Solitude Ground, Belfast where he scored the opening goal in the 10–2 rout of Ireland. Alex Latta
Alexander Latta (1 September 1867 – 25 August 1928) was a Scottish footballer who made ten appearances, mostly at outside right, in Everton's Football League title winning side of 1890–91. Latta began his career with Dumbarton Athletic as a 14-year-old but moved to Everton in 1889. He was a tall and stocky outside right who displayed great pace and dribbling skills. Latta played twice for Scotland during his career. Yoker F
Yoker ( gd, An Eochair) is an area of Glasgow, Scotland, on the northern bank of the Clyde east of Clydebank, west of the city centre. From the fourteenth century, the Renfrew Ferry has linked Yoker with Renfrew on the south bank. Although shipbuilding has declined, the nearby Yarrows shipyard, now owned by BAE Systems, is still in operation. The name is an Anglicisation of the Scottish Gaelic ''Eochair'' meaning a river bank. Kirkintilloch (; sco, Kirkintulloch; gd, Cair Cheann Tulaich) is a town and former barony burgh in East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It lies on the Forth and Clyde Canal and on the south side of Strathkelvin, about northeast of central Glasgow. Historically part of Dunbartonshire, the town is the administrative home of East Dunbartonshire council area, its population in 2009 was estimated at 19,700 and its population in 2011 was 19,689.
