Duke Divinity School
The Duke Divinity School at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, is one of ten graduate or professional schools within Duke University. It is also one of thirteen seminaries founded and supported by the United Methodist Church. It has 39 regular rank faculty and 15 joint, secondary or adjunct faculty, and, as of 2017, an enrollment of 543 full-time equivalent students. The current dean of the Divinity School is the Rev. Dr. Edgardo Colón-Emeric, who assumed the deanship on August 31, 2021. Former deans include the prominent New Testament scholar Richard B. Hays, who stepped down in 2015. History The Divinity School was founded in 1926 as the first graduate school at Duke, following a large endowment by James B. Duke, a tobacco magnate, in 1924. Jamal Harrison Bryant
Jamal Harrison Bryant (born May 21, 1971) is an American minister, author and former political candidate. He is the senior pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. Early life and education Jamal Harrison Bryant was born on May 21, 1971, in Boston, Massachusetts, to John Richard and Cecelia Bryant (née Williams). He has a younger sister. William Willimon
William Henry Willimon (born May 15, 1946) is a retired American theologian and bishop in the United Methodist Church who served the North Alabama Conference for eight years. He is Professor of the Practice of Christian Ministry and Director of the Doctor of Ministry program at Duke Divinity School. Lauren Winner
Lauren Frances Winner (born 1976) is an American historian, scholar of religion, and Episcopal priest. She is Associate Professor of Christian Spirituality at Duke Divinity School. Winner writes and lectures on Christian practice, the history of Christianity in America, and Jewish–Christian relations. Winner was born to a Jewish father and a Southern Baptist mother, and was raised Jewish. Sam Wells (priest)
Samuel Martin Bailey Wells (born 1965) is an English priest of the Church of England. , he has been the vicar of St Martin-in-the-Fields in central London, and Visiting Professor of Christian Ethics at King's College London. Geoffrey Wainwright
Geoffrey Wainwright (1939 – 17 March 2020) was an English theologian. He spent much of his career in the United States and taught at Duke Divinity School. Wainwright made major contributions to modern Methodist theology and Christian liturgy, and played a significant role on producing the text '' Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry'', as a member of the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches (WCC). Timothy B. Tyson (born 1959) is an American writer and historian who specializes in the issues of culture, religion, and race associated with the Civil Rights Movement. He is a senior research scholar at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University and an adjunct professor of American Studies at the University of North Carolina. Richard Alan Lischer (born November 12, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri) is an American author, memoirist, preacher, practical theologian, and professor emeritus at Duke Divinity School. Willie James Jennings
Willie James Jennings (born April 29, 1961) is an American theologian, known for his contributions on liberation theologies, cultural identities, and theological anthropology. He is currently an associate professor of systematic theology and Africana studies at Yale Divinity School. Career Jenning gained his B.A. in religion and theology at Calvin College in 1984, and his M.Div in Fuller Theological Seminary in 1987. Reinhard Hütter
Reinhard Hütter (born 1 November 1958 in Lichtenfels, Bavaria) is a German Roman Catholic theologian. He is currently Visiting Professor of Catholic Theology at Duke Divinity School and Professor Emeritus of Fundamental and Dogmatic Theology at Catholic University of America, The Catholic University of America.
