The company was in business from 1905 until 1913. History The Dugan glass company was founded by Thomas Dugan, a cousin of Harry Northwood. About 1904 Dugan along with his partner W. G. Minnemayer bought the closed Northwood factory in Indiana, PA and opened it as the Dugan glass company. In 1912 a machine fire destroyed many of the molds being used. The company continued production after the Dugans left the company and was renamed the Diamond glass company in 1913. Northwood Glass Company
The Northwood glass company was a manufacturer of art glass in various locations in the United States from 1887 to 1925. History Harry Northwood who founded the company was the son of John Northwood, a noted maker of English cameo glass. He came to America in 1880 and worked at J. H. Hobbs, Brockunier and Company. He worked as a glass etcher there from approximately 1881-1884. He then worked for the La Belle glass company and during a strike there moved to Phoenix glass company in Pittsburgh, Pa. He became a glass maker when he returned to La Belle about 1886. The original Northwood Glass Company was established by Harry Northwood in 1887 in Martins Ferry, Ohio. However, the company was later relocated to Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, where it failed to thrive. Dugan or Duggan () is an Irish surname derived from Ó Dubhagáinn. History A family of the name Dugan had its territory near the modern town of Fermoy in north Cork, and were originally the ruling family of the Fir Maighe tribal group which gave its name to the town. They also claimed descent from Mug Ruith, the legendary magician of the Fir Bolg. They ceded pre-eminence to the O'Keeffe family in the eleventh century, but remained powerful in the area. Carnival glass is moulded or pressed glass to which an iridescent surface shimmer has been applied. It has previously been referred to as aurora glass, dope glass, rainbow glass, taffeta glass, and disparagingly as 'poor man's Tiffany'. The name Carnival glass was adopted by collectors in the 1950s as items of it were sometimes given as prizes at carnivals, fetes, and fairgrounds. However, evidence suggests that the vast majority of it was purchased by households to brighten homes at a time when only the well-off could afford bright electric lighting, as its finish catches the light even in dark corners.
