Dudley Field (El Paso)
Dudley Field was a baseball park in El Paso, Texas from 1924 to 2005. The field was named after Mayor R. M. Dudley (1862–1925), and originally hosted the El Paso Texans team. Later the stadium played home to the El Paso Sun Kings, which later became the El Paso Diablos. The Diablos called Dudley home until 1989, when they relocated to a new facility, Cohen Stadium, in the northeast of town. Though an open stadium, it was long jokingly referred to as the "Dudley Dome" by the stadium announcers. Dudley Field had bleachers running down each foul line to complement the covered grandstand, which was made of adobe bricks, and sat behind home plate. It was located on the south side of the city directly next to the El Paso Zoo. Arizona–Texas League
The Arizona–Texas League was a Class D level American minor league baseball league that existed for nine seasons, from 1931–32, 1937–41, 1947–50 and 1952-54. In 1951, the Arizona-Texas loop merged with the Sunset League (based primarily in California but with teams in Nevada and New Mexico) to form the Southwest International League. However, the Arizona and Texas clubs played only that one season (1951) in the new circuit before seceding and reforming the A-TL in 1952. From 1928 to 1930, it was known as the Arizona State League. Northeast El Paso
Northeast El Paso is part of the city of El Paso, Texas and is located north of Central El Paso, and east of the Franklin Mountains (Texas), Franklin Mountains. Its southern boundary is variously given as Fred Wilson Boulevard or Cassidy Road and Van Buren Avenue, and it extends northward to the New Mexico state line; some portions of this region lie outside the city limits, including parts of Franklin Mountains State Park and areas of Fort Bliss: the Logan Heights area of Fort Bliss around Chapin High School and Castner Range National Monument, an old firing range northwest of Hondo Pass Drive and Gateway South Boulevard. UTEP Miners Baseball
The UTEP Miners is the name given to the sports teams of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). They are informally referred to as the Miners, UTEP, or Texas–El Paso. UTEP was a member of the Western Athletic Conference from 1967 to 2005, when they joined Rice, Tulsa, and SMU in leaving the WAC for Conference USA. The UTEP Miners are best known as the first team in Texas to win an NCAA Men's Basketball Championship (and only team in Texas to be national champions until Baylor's victory in the 2021 tournament). UTEP's colors are orange and blue and the mascot is a miner named Paydirt Pete. The ''El Paso Times'' is the newspaper for the US city of El Paso, Texas. The paper is the only English-language daily in El Paso (after the ''El Paso Herald-Post'', an afternoon paper, closed in 1997), but often competes with the Spanish-language ''El Diario de El Paso'', an offshoot of ''El Diario de Juárez'' which is published across the Rio Grande in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico.
