Drumheller Mail
''The Drumheller Mail'' is a community newspaper in Alberta, Canada. Established in 1911, it is one of Alberta's oldest community newspapers. History In 1911, ''The Mail'' was started by Grover Cleveland Duncan in Munson, Alberta. In April 1918, the printing plant was moved into Drumheller and amalgamated with the printing job plant of E.C. Payne. In September 1952, three Drumheller businessmen (John Anderson, Sam Robb, and Osborne Sheddy Sr.) purchased the newspaper from The Clarke Brothers. John was the accountant, Sam was the Pressman, and Ossie was the young Salesman and Manager of the operations. Over time, Ossie reinvested his share of the profits into purchasing more ownership in the company until he owned all shares in 1972. As of 2009 Drumheller Mail Ltd. is still owned by the Sheddy family and employs over 20 people. Ossie Sheddy Jr. and Osborne (Bob) Sheddy III run the business. In 2000, the newspaper went online. Drumheller, Alberta
Drumheller is a town on the Red Deer River in the badlands of east-central Alberta, Canada. It is located northeast of Calgary and south of Stettler. The Drumheller portion of the Red Deer River valley, often referred to as Dinosaur Valley, has an approximate width of and an approximate length of . Drumheller was named after Samuel Drumheller, who, after purchasing the homestead of Thomas Patrick Greentree, had it surveyed into the original Drumheller townsite and put lots on the market in 1911. Also in 1911, Samuel Drumheller started coal mining operations near the townsite. Drumheller got a railway station in 1912. It was then incorporated as a village on May 15, 1913, a town on March 2, 1916, and a city on April 3, 1930. Over a 15-year period, Drumheller's population increased from 312 in 1916 to 2,987 in 1931 shortly after becoming a city. Munson, Alberta
Munson is a village in central Alberta, Canada. It is located 13 km north of the Town of Drumheller along Highway 9 and the Canadian National Railway tracks. History Prior to the end of World War I, Munson was the site of a Ukrainian Canadian internment camp where non-citizen immigrant prisoners laboured on the railway.
